I have been experiencing anxiety attacks or panic attacks a lot lately. and i do not know what they are caused by. i am lucky that i am surrounded by people who know how to handle my attacks, but i feel incredibly self concious and embarrased after one. i am under 18 and i have not told my parents and they are not around much to help anyways...any advice? Also my parents don't know how to handle things like these. Any suggestions about them either?

My girlfriend has panic attacks. Shes been diagnosed with Post Tramautic Stress Disorder and the disorder causes those attacks.
That may be your case but Im no doctor. Do some reading on PTSD and anxiety attacks. You should seek professional help definately just so you know exactly what is going on with you.
As far as your parents...you do need to tell them. They will need to make an appointment for you to see a doctor and the doctor will be able to explain to them what they will need to do to help you.

yes me too have anxiety and panic attacks and they are like hell on earth. The first thing that i would lke to say to you is not to continue feeling self concious and embarassed about them as at this time you cant make them just go away and it will make you feel and think more stressed about them.i am in my early 30sand have had panic attacks since i was around 20 so it has been a long time for myself.I tried medication but you have to be very careful as some of the medications are addictive and make you feel worse, however i am not a professional and i dont exactly know you circumstances best for you to see a doctor.
There are many ways of dealing with panic and anxiety disorders as i have mentioned medication is an option, there is also therapy to help you change what you are thinking(and unfortunatly i my self can be thinking positively but sub conciously i am not thinking postive at all)
My self personally after being on medication for a long time have now come to a point where i am now (with docors advice)slowly coming of the medication and surprizingly feeling a bit better.I also have in place therapy(cbt)and also exposure therapy.Personally i think that i is great that you are wanting to do some thing about it now when you are young.
As for your parents well i really think that you need to talk to them about this and just be honest you may very well be surprized as they may know more than what you realize or they may look into it and get knowledge on ways to help you good luck

Panic attacks, though unpleasant, are nothing to worry about. They are caused by what is known as the "Fight or Flight Syndrome."
This is a very deep-rooted reaction that goes back to ancient times when life was riskier and more dangerous than today, when it was eat or be eaten, so to speak. Basically, the brain becomes flooded with adrenalin to prepare one to either attack or to run away.
This may cause accelerated heartbeat, dry mouth and muscle tension, even dizziness.
The best way to combat this is to try to relax. I know that's easier said than done but slowing your breathing right down and taking one or two deep breaths is very effective.
Another good way is to breathe into a paper bag and breathe that in again a few times.Believe it or not, this really works.
If the attacks get more troublesome, see your doctor. Anxiety can be overcome by something called cognitive behavioural therapy.
Good luck and don't worry, this is very common.

Geez. Honey, you shouldn't take this lightly at all. Panic attacks happen when you are under a lot of stress and your body releases chemicals as if you were in an emergency situation but you are not. In other words, your brain is reacting incorrectly. It could be serious and the first signal of something bad or it could be temporary. I feel so sorry for you and that your parents are not around, but any parent with a situation like this would try to help his/her child. Do you have any relatives? or siblings? PLEASE find someone at school or even if you want to call me I would be more than happy just to talk and try to help. Definitely, act now and tell someone you trust.Having those nasty attacks is not fun, I've had them and I was put on medication, I do not wish for anybody to go through it. I'ts a horrible scary experience. Good luck dear.

Many children and adolescents have an isolated panic attack, which does not require intervention because it does not recur. A smaller number of children and adolescents develop panic disorder. The tendency to develop panic disorder involves complex genetic and environmental factors. You should definitely tell your parents if they continue.

See a psychologist as soon as possible. If you do have to go to the hospital mention that these attacks happen to you frequently. Those things come without an obvious trigger... So it is definitely something that you NEED to see a professional for.

I thought I had a heart attack when I had one. Mine got bad there for a while. Nothing really helped mine until I started smoking cigarettes. Then I realized it was all in mind control. You need to learn how to calm yourself down. Learn what triggers them, and try to prevent them to begin with. Drugs I got prescribed made me more nervous. I thought I was gonna die.
