It is up to you.
Your name only or a combo, hyphenated name.
It is good to know you are having your baby.
Good luck and I hope you have lots of family and friends to help you out!

Congrats!

You can call the child Hotdog Poppyseed Bun if you want. The problem comes in when you have to prove paternity. You are the mother and will be so on the birth certificate, but you don't even HAVE to give the child your name, OR his. To have the father's name on the birth certificate however; you need his signature or a paternity test.

Well, if the fathers not around.. What does he care what you put your childs last name as? The father doesn't want anything to do with bub in the first place, so you do what ever you think is rite! It's completely up to you.

When I was born my Dad wasn't around, not until 2 years later. But my mum put both his and her last name on the of my name...

Whatever you choose, your bub, your choice!!

First of all.... Did he sign the Birth Certificate? If not, you would need his permission to use his last name. You can use yours because she is your child. Does he know about the child and that she is his? You need to get in touch with him and get his permission. If he isn't in the picture at all and did not sign the Birth Cert. you can't use his name. He has to sign that himself as the father. Good Luck!

You could do whatever you wanted.

I know a friend who had 3 kids with 3 different last names, even though they all had the same father.

You can use any last-name you like, as long as it's not for fraud.
You should also designate the father, if you know for sure.
The child may want to contact him when he's older.

Its perfectly O.K. to do this. I have my mothers last name, and I'm glad I don't have a deadbeat last name.
