i bought it on the 17th and i applied it exactly as it says on the package. its been at least 3 days now and my cat is still itching.the itching reduced a bit and i see dead fleas on his fur but there are still some that are alive.i have kept him indoors ever since i applied the frontline because there are fleas in the neighborhood as well as wild cats that are filled with fleas. oh and my cat rolls in the mud when he is outside, but i gave him a bath and put frontline on him and i haven't let him out since.i will not be able to keep him in the house forever ,which means after all the fleas on him are dead,i will be letting him out.
so what i want to know is will the frontline keep the fleas off him when he goes outside?and will the frontline still work if he rolls in mud?

Ten days. What it does is it kills any adult fleas that jump onto him during the whole one month in between applications. That's the easy part. The reason I say ten days is because it takes ten days for any fleas that jumped on him before the 17th to lay eggs and have those eggs hatched into more adults. Again, that's easy, and the best time to assume he's flea free.
Because it's Frontline Plus, it will say on the package that it kills the eggs and larva too, but the truth is the larva are almost indestructable and based on what I've seen, I don't believe it. So ten days from application as long as you keep him inside (and away from OTHER sources of fleas) is good to be safe. = )
Oh and it's waterproof so you don't have to worry about mud.

It takes 24 hours to kill all the fleas and flea eggs currently on the animal.
What I think you have here is a need to treat your house. Frontline Plus kills the fleas and eggs on the animal, but not the ones in the house - if you haven't treated your house, you could still see fleas. The dead ones you're seeing are the ones on the animal, the live ones are the ones that have hopped on from the house - they will die too, but they may be replaced by new ones from the house if you don't treat!
Also, you didn't bath your cat before applying the Frontline did you? Because if you did, the Frontline will not have been able to spread through the skin properly, and will not work as well. You cannot apply Frontline within 48 hours before or after bathing the animal.

Taken from Frontline.com Q. How long does it take for FRONTLINE Plus to kill fleas?
A. In a study, FRONTLINE Plus began killing fleas 4 hours after application.1 Another study showed that within 12 hours, Frontline Plus killed 100% of fleas.

If your cat has had fleas and been in your house, there are flea eggs in your house. These will still be hatching and then the little baby fleas will jump on your cat and die. I'd give it a month, at least. Extra vacuuming to get up the eggs will help get rid of them. Once your cat goes out again, the entire cycle will start again unless you keep up with the Frontline or use a flea collar or something.
If you have properly applied the Frontline, it will not come off outside.

Honestly, I'd try Advantage. Two years ago we used Frontline like we always had (and had good luck prior). The fleas were back in 2 weeks. The vet told us that fleas are beginning to build up an immunity to it, and suggested Advantage. We haven't had any problems since. I'm sure if it becomes a big issue, the Frontline people will have to reformulate but...that was our experience.
Frontline and Advantage are both waterproof 24 hours after application, so mud shouldn't affect it.

Frontline has always worked for me, even this year. I did skip one month on accident, during which she got roundworms from the fleas, but that was my own fault and my vet said the flea life cycle takes about 10 days. I've used that information to sucessfully rid my whole home of the fleas!

I have 6 critters and have not seen in a flea in years that I've used Frontline. It works very quickly, but you can use a flea comb in the meantime if you are still seeing bugs on him.

my store sells it so i can tell u all u need to know.
Frontline kills each flea on the animal within 48 hours. You need to treat your house too as otherwise the fleas in the house will jump onto your pet therefore making it look like your pet still has fleas and frontline isn't working.
thoroughly wash and clean all bedding of your cats and deflea every nook and cranny as they hide everywhere and the flea eggs can live up to 2 years so hoover as regularly as you can, everyother day would be good.

battling fleas is a ongoing thing with our pets . how ever if u apply it correctly and do so once a month u should not have a problem unless your carpet has fleas and eggs. u can buy mule borax powder and sprinkle on carpet then vacuum it up and it will get rid of fleas and flea eggs and it is also pet friendly to use u can get it at a grocery store. i hope this helps a bit. also if the fleas are so bad u can purchase from ur local vet capstar it will kill every flea in about 4-12hrs how ever it does not prevent fleas! U MUST USE A PREVENTATIVE! hope this helps!!!!
