I was looking through the options on my PS3 and I saw one for "Install other OS." Does this mean I can install, say, Windows on the PS3?

Yes, you can do it. It's very complicated and not worth the result. First, you'll have to install Linux. Than you can install Win XP over that Linux, BUT:
1). It'll be very slow and unstable.
2). You won't be able to play games, because DirectX isn't supported.

NO it is not for windows its for linux ONLY. The ps3 has a power PC based architecture and windows has x86 which is for everyday processors. The ps3's CELL is not an everyday processor. I have linux installed on my ps3 and it does become useful sometimes. Even though most computer games are for windows only there is a program for linux that allows you to play windows games, but requires a subscription fee :(. You can get windows running on ur ps3 through emulation through linux but its sumwhat complicated and VERY VERY slow. Also windows will NEVER be on the ps3. Everyday computers will never use power pc architecture. Only Apple and computer servers uses those.

Probably not, you would probably connect the hard drive to your PC via S-ata cables the format the hardrive and install windows, but make sure the hardware is compatible. (I know you probably won't do that)
