The government had to be seen doing something and they did , Unfortuantley it was against us hunters.
However when the law was passed i do belive it was one they new was not going to work or be enforced, which it is.
So to put it bluntley No its not effective and has not worked.
The attitudes of many said it would never stop them hunting even with a ban upon them,,,, GOOD ON THEM AS WELL.
As to you question on breeding fox's,,,
why on earth would they with the vast amount breeding allready within the british isles, Hunts will choos places to hunt where there is vast amounts of land providing a mature habitats in which the fox will thrive, live and roam.
As for saboteurs i can not answer that, they are know to play as dirty as it can get though.
Farming is about the growing and cultivating of crop as well as the breeding of live stock.
Farm's who have a population of lambs, chickens, guees ect and a population of fox on his land has a problem.
They dont thrive in our countryside coss of the handouts by humans, they thrive becaus there sliy, succesfull, and barbaric killers,, in a sence there a hoover that cleans everything up.
As a person who has many thousands of acrs shooting right, i experience what mr fox is caperble of, with gamebirds, lambs, chickens ect, and its not alway done for a good feed, but fun.
So we have come to the conclusion that we have one succesfull predator whos population is soon to go out of controll, if it has not already, and the onley ligal culling way is to shoot them , Hunting by hounds was not so bad after all .
I still enjoy a night on the chase of charlie though,

1.) At what? Stopping people riding around after hounds and foxes that mostly escaped or at keeping foxes from a nasty death? Foxes always have a nasty death, banning hunting with dogs did nothing except make a few townies feel smug. Same as the Dunblane inspired pistol ban, it did nothing it was supposed to and stopped a sport that wasn't doing any harm anyway/
2.) Don't be ridiculous.
3.) None what so ever.
4.) Same as they ever were. Britains only wild dog will continue to eat farm animals, be they birds or mamals, and farmers will continue to kill them. Shooting always worked better than other alternatives. The modern age has made absolutely no difference, except that foxes are more common now that fewer people hunt them.

1. Complete an utter waste of the tax pays money.
2. Claptrap, a fabrication from the red tops.
3. Osama is that you?
4. The fox is a big threat. The hill farmer with a 1000 spring lambs will not want to see a fox on his land.
The game farmer also does not want the fox. I also have little time for Charlie. We shoot foxes all year round with a rifle and shotgun.

1) Don't really know.
2) Not that I Know of.
3) Don't know.
4) Many large farms and estates rear 1000's of Pheasant, Patridge and Duck chicks for Shooting. These birds cost many £1000's to purchase / breed and rear until release, and subsequent feeding etc. Foxes are the number one wild predator in the UK, and causes significant damage to such shoots, as well as to our native wild bird and mammal numbers.
I know you probably don't like Shooting either, but whatever way you look at it, without Shooting our countryside would not be the same today i.e. much fewer hedgerows and woods, and subsequently habitat for our native birds, mammals, etc.
PS - I'm not into Hunting, but I do take part in Shooting.

yes a tradition is lost and that it happening too often, but rifles and shotguns are much more efective time and cash wise one shot=fox dead, easy as cake if you are a good shot like me, but if you are not you ca get some traps which you have to buy once and then reuse again and again, also to say that there has been a lot of speculation about what has happened on hunts both before and after such as bombs and arsen but a lot of it is just hear say, but people should respect other peoples beliefs about hunting, because on one hand it is cruel to be torn appart by a pack of hounds but the fox dies with in a few seconds and it is the same with the guns so what the f*** is the difference?

1) Ineffective. The criminals keep sailing so close to the wind and the law enforcement can't afford to wast the time splitting hairs on whether or not the perps are out exercising their dogs or actually hunting with dogs.
2)Yes there is.
3)No evidence. If you know different please submit your evidence to the police so that they may persue the allegations properly.
4)No threat. However the hunters will tell you that a huge counrtryside economy is dependent on allowing them to cruelly pursue their blood sport and that the farmers need them. This is like arguing that paedophillia should be legal so that there will be more jobs in the printing industry.

1)the hunting ban is not effective at all, the people who hunt are larglely made up of land owners and they arent about to report themselves
2)yes, some hunts did breed foxes, but only a very small minority did this
3)no nail bombs were used, but on many occasions fireworks/french bangers would be used to scare the horses
4)there is no threat now, most farmers keep their livestock safely tucked away indoors at night.

All I can say is that now dogs can't be used guns will account for way more deaths and, if it's a bad shot, will be a slow, painful one too. At least the hounds could kill a fox in an instant.

Chris H seems to have summed it up, the only thing that I would add is that hunts are now better supported than they ever were.
