So I'm 14, and I was sitting around in my room, feeling just a little glum, when I spotted a measuring triangle with these tantalizing, sharp edges. I have no idea what I'm saying right now, but I kind of just grabed it and scratched myself all over my forearm. I don't think I'm UNHAPPY, I think I was just curious or something really trivial like that. I feel very ashamed, and am not going to do it again, but in the meantime, I need a way to hide the cuts. They aren't very deep at all, but they are swollen and take on a crimson hue. I tried coverup, and that hardly worked. And I don't know if I have enough long sleeved shirts...I'm not sure if there IS any other concealer though.

Just so you know, this was NOT for attention. I think I'm losing my head, in the meantime :). Sorry to inconvenience you all.

Hello there. First off, I am sorry that you cut yourself, but instead of concealing it I encourage you to do the very opposite. Self injury is a very addictive cycle, and without being completely mindful of why you cut in the first place, then you are vulnerable to doing it again - no matter how much you want to keep yourself from doing it. People dont just cut themselves for no good reason. There is something going on that triggered you to cut. Also, know that while cutting may feel very shameful, there are alot of people who self injure. Most people do so in secret, which is why it carries a great deal of shame/isolation. You are not alone, and you don't have to be. Here are some resources for you. Best of luck.

You can always say you scratched it on something. I agree with the poster above and say do not use cover-up. As it is, it sounds like they might already be slightly infected. Scrub them really well with soap and water and even hydrogen peroxide if you have it. Then keep them clean and covered with bandages and some kind of antibiotic ointment like neosporin.

You also might want to consider coming clean about it to your parents. They might freak out at first, but you might need to get some help and be seen by a psychiatrist. You appear to have some slight impulse control issues and should be seen by a professional.

Go outside and climb a tree. Make sure your mom sees you acting like an idiot. Then jump out of the tree. Ta da! If she see's them, you got scratches by a tree branch. Issue solved. Plus, if they are puny little scratches, take a shower. They should be gone in two days if you put lotion on them. No biggie.

P.S. You may want to remove all sharp objects from your room.

Time to tell your mom, maybe you don't think this is any thing, but it is. You need to tell your mom you where messing around and cut yourself, and you need to watch for infection. See if you have any hydrogen Pyrocide and clean out the cuts. When you say it is not for attention, then say you are losing your head tells me you did this intentionally. If you have to hide it, I know you did it on purpose.

Hi

My little sister admitted to me she does that also, and funny thing is she hides it well. She does it when she's sad, in order to make the emotional pain go away she cuts herself which brings on physical pain. It will only get worse, please get help. My sister promised she'd stop, she's coming over today, I'm going to check and make sure she's still not doing it.

Please STOP!
