People who are paranoid schizophrenics have very strong delusional ideas and hear things during normal functioning.
Other indicators of paranoid schizophrenia include anxiety, anger, a level of detachment from the people around them, and a tendency to argue.

The main symptom of paranoid schizophrenia is that the sufferer has delusions and hallucinations. Other symptoms include anxiety, anger, aloofness and argumentativeness.

That's all I could gather from that paragraph! I have no idea what the 'relative preservation of cognitive functioning and effect' means, but hope I helped anyway!

"The essential feature" means the main symptom. "presence of prominent delusions or auditory hallucinations" means seeing/hearing things that don't really exist. "in the context of a relative preservation of cognitive functioning and effect" means during everyday life.

Aloofness means something to the effect of "not really being all there". Argumentativeness is...arguing a lot.

Basically, seeing or hearing things that don't exist without extreme circumstances causing it.
showing signs of anxiety, anger, not being all there, or easily arguing.

"The main symptom of a severe type of mental condition that involves much disturbance in the brain. The patient will probably have noticable delusions (false beliefs of obvious things), hallucinations (hearing voices, seeing visions) during the time one is diagnosed with this illness. Other features include anxiety, anger, emotional disturbances, and a tendancy to argue a lot."

Hope this helps and yes this is what it really means! :)

It means that to diagnose someone with paranoid schizophrenia, they must have delusions or hallucinations (seeing and/or hearing things that aren't there, or believing things are going on that aren't). The person can also have anxiety, anger, aloofness (being distant or cold emotionally), and argumentativeness (liking to argue and fight).

It means the main feature of schizophrenia is delusions, and also hallucinations where the schizophrenic believes he/she is hearing something--when there isn't actually a sound. At the same time this is going on, the schizophrenic's brain can still seem to function normally.

the essential symptom of the "paranoid" class of the illness known as "schizophrenia" is the presence of "seeing things" or "hearing voices" while being able to still communicate with others ( not off in LA-LA land).

other stuff that they might have includes anxiety, anger, aloofness, and argumentativeness.

that help any?

the paranoid schizophrenic person's main issue is that they believe STRONGLY in things that aren't real and they perhaps see and hear things that aren't real. Hearing stuff is a biggie here!
anger, feeling"out of it' or not in touch w/ other people, being sensitive and freaking out a little ablut stuff, and being defensive.

-thats pretty much all that says....do ignore the "context of relative...-just clinical stuff.
