For the most part free weights will always be superior to doing only bodyweight training as you can actually increase the load over time using free weights, but you can't do that with bodyweight training. Though you'll see some gains initially with bodyweight training if you're a beginner, the progress you make will be limited in comparison as the load cannot increase over time, so at some point all you're doing is maintaining a level of endurance rather than increasing in strength/size.

bodyweight exercise are severely limited as there are a very few of them in number and the load placed on the muscles is constant and can not be increased safely in most exercises.
