My husband keeps having these episodes when he's asleep at night - he's had it maybe 4 or 5 times in the past few months. He says he sees a bright light and he is trying to yell for me but I can't hear him. He says his body is bent backwards and he can't move. I think he's having some kind of crazy dream, but he swears he's awake and it's some kind of seizure. Yet, they're very infrequent and never happen anytime except the middle of the night. Also, he dreams or hallucinates weird things during these attacks, like he's floating or I'm walking around the room when really I'm asleep. And last night when he "woke up" from one of these, he had a headache. I'm reposting this question because of the site being down earlier. Has anyone heard of this?

Brady - no, no ghosts in the house. I think his initial thought was that it was some sort of spiritual attack, but our beliefs lean more towards either God or an evil spirit, not so much ghosts, and I guess I don't see the purpose of either one doing anything this odd to him.

I am epileptic, and while I have heard of seeing lights and whatnot, I have never heard of the dream thing you are speaking of. This sounds more like a sleep disorder. There is a severe form of sleepwalking. Unfortuantley I do not know the name of it. However it has caused people to see things that are not really there, and react to it. They seem like they are awake to the person that they are sleeping with (you) but are completely asleep. I would have your husband see his doctor. These bouts can be pretty aggressive if it is the sleep disorder I am thinking of.

I would put him on the med for now and then you can get a second opinion. The blood tests done should help solve the issue of any side effects. My mom has seizures and unfortunately medicine is the only thing that helps her and many others with epilepsy. Fortunately, your dog is being prescribed one cheap and readily available drug and not half a dozen. Not to say that there are not alternative treatments that work or at least help in some cases. But, the majority of the time, you are going to need medication to control seizures. It sounds like you may be in doubt he is having seizures. If that's the case, have another conversation with the vet about what they look like to be sure you aren't needlessly medicating.

Yeah, Brady is right. If people are not familiar with the ways of God or the spirit realm, they will not understand strange seizures at night. The seizures can result for two reasons. Seizures are a sign of demonic possession just like in the bible when Jesus cast out a demonic spirit which caused a boy to have seizures. But also, when the Holy Spirit comes upon a person they can have seizures which are not harmful. It represents the Holy Spirit want to take possession of a person's life which is a excellent thing and nothing evil at all.

I would suspect that this is what can be called a "waking dream" or a hallucination had when half awake. It is odd that it keeps happening, though. And the fact that he had a headache after one, if not coincidental, is a bit worrying. Usually waking dreams happen when someone is taking drugs, has a fever or is under stress.

something like this happened once to me. I was laying there and could not move or talk for 20 or 30 seconds. I did not hurt, but I was totally paralyzed. I was told it happens when your body wakes before your brain. It was a weird feeling.
Do you have a ghost in the house?

It sounds like it could be a form of seizure. I have epilepsy and my seizure always started at night. I had a test where I had to stay up all night and then they relaxed me to test me. I got tested during the day and everything always came up normal so go see a neurologist.

It could be a dream. Some dreams feel so real---once in a dream, i shook (SP?) someones hand i could feel the sweat and pressure on my hand! I can also feel myself being in somewhat uncomfortable positions but this happens not so much.
If he really feels like he is having a seizure, go see a doctor immediately!

Well it could be but i would seek professional help in this case just to be sure. It is unusual , I've never heard of it in 66 years. It could be a serious neurological response. Please have him see his family doctor! Good luck!

Tell your husband not to sleep on his front and also not to rest his hands on his chest, while he is on his back.
This isn't a silly answer. You will more than likely find, things will get better.
