...what is that thing called that you can put on top of the TV that is a "reader" for the remote and has a wire back to the cable box? I am trying to price one online but I have no idea what they're called or where to find one. Not looking for a "remote control extender" where it lets your remote go through walls. I just want the little eye reader that you stick on the top of the TV. Thanks in advance for any help!!

I do this all the time. You will need to find your local Xantech dealer and buy:
1 ir receiver (several styles to choose from)
1 ir connecting block
1 ir power supply
1 ir emitter for each thing you want to control
These are all made by Xantech. You can see them at the link below...

All you need to do it place your cable box at an angle so it points toward where you are sitting with the remote. Then put the cable box next to the TV not on top or below it. If pointing to the cable box is a problem it might be because your remote has weak batteries that you need to replace. Or maybe you just need to dust off the lens on the remote sensor of the cable box.

Havent a clue what you mean there but have you tried looking on different sites that sell stuff to do with remotes and look thru and see if you can find a picture of one and then find out what its called and shop around.

Thats what I would do anyway.

Or maybe one of the sony centres or something similar in town could help with the name, and then if they'r not as reasonably priced as you'd like, tell them you will think about it, then ring them and say no
