You might get a more intelligent and serious answer in the psychology section, I think you'll only get offended sheep here.
There are alot of reasons why people believe in religious stuff.
I think mostly exposure through family and peers, at an early age and continuously throughout their life, and also pressure from society, family, and peers through fear of various things ranging from fear of going to an imaginary hell to fear of being ostracized, etc..
There are plenty of other psychological reasons and processes going on, but I don't think we'll be getting to the bottom of the real reasons why people believe these things anytime soon. At this point in time, these people are a majority, and there is a prejudice in our scientific community, and everywhere else, about religious beliefs. Half of the dictionary, encyclopedia, and even medical diagnostic books, etc., don't yet identify religious belief and its related actions as delusional, schizophrenic, etc., when they so obviously fit some of the definitions given for these and other conditions. Some of these even specifically exclude religious beliefs from the definition IN the definition.
Example:
"People who exhibit this behavior and do these things and believe this stuff are nuts...Oh, uh, I mean EXCEPT for my religious brothers. We aren't messed up because these things are true and god is real, so we're O.K., but everyone else, who has the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS, is schizophrenic and will be diagnosed as such..."
-If we don't get past this, we may never be able to really understand, and possibly even treat, these threats to the survival of the human species we call "religious beliefs"...

No, but it has been demonstrated that certain parts of the brain are damaged in atheists.

So, will you research the developmental disability disorder that makes people atheists?

(Good grief! Talk about picking at straws! Didn't you have enough straw to tear down a complete straw man?)

I don't think it has anything to do with developmental disabilities and that's an insult to people who actually have them. Not nice at all. Me: Buddhist

Not that I'm aware of, and I doubt there ever will be.

You see how ridiculous Christians get about a movie that sends an atheistic message. Imagine how pissed off they'd be about that.
