I had a cast on my leg and it was scary. I was young at the time. First time they changed the cast my leg was blue and black from the break in the ankle all the way down to the toes and all the way up to my knee, scared the living daylights out of me. Thankfully I did not have any problems with any itch. However, personal hygiene was impossible, did not have showers back then and while sat in the bath one night, with leg up on a plastic crate, the ceiling fell in! I returned, they did the x-ray removed the cast and then informed me that they would need to operate as the bones had not knitted. I refused the operation told them to leave it a few more weeks and they did. By then the bones had healed but I had lost half the muscle mass on my leg! So female with one thin leg and one normal leg. However I soon balanced it out.
Yes they do remove the cast with a circular saw, however it cannot cut you, honest! That freaked me out, but the blade is designed not to go beyond the depth of the cast, under which is cotton wool! Good Luck
