-- My parents got 1 year visa, while most people get 10 year. During the interview, they said they will stay for 3-4 months. Could that be the reason of getting 1 year and not more?
(I know people who said 1 month stay, and they got 10 year visa)

Any inputs appreciated.

Thanks.

The interviewing officer apparently felt they didn't present a sufficiently strong case to issue a full 10 year visa. Assuming they go to the US and return as they said they would, they will almost certainly be issued a full 10 year visa the next time
they apply. The good news is at least they got the visa and can visit you, and they should be able to do so again in the future.

George is right. Remember, it's not how long the visa is good for, it's how long they're admitted. You (and George) omitted to see if they received single-entry or multiple-entry visas. That, too, would tell how the consular officer felt about your parents.

Other factors to consider include- how old your parents are (retired?) and how old the other people are, what the reasons for visiting were, and what sort of ties to India your parents have compared to the ties the other people have.

(George, you know your stuff!)
