Ok so my friend helped me get a puppy from these people and it cost $649. I wanted to get my grandma the dog she always wanted and we like him and stuff but he isn't the right one for her. Is it legal to sell it without going back to those people? Or could i swap it with another puppy from someone who is selling it around the same price. I love him but it isn't up to me, cause i live with my grandparents. I cannot talk them out of it and i hate to think of him as an object to 'swap'. But i just wanted to know what you guys think. Cause there is a guy selling a puppy through the newspapers, the same species, age, and it costs $600. $49 less than what i bought so i was going to ask him if I could give him my puppy and he give me that one and he could sell mine to a good home.

Did you sign a contract? If so, what were the terms? No resale? Co-ownership?
If not, he's yours to do with as you will.

It is legal unless you signed a contract with the breeder.
When I sell my puppies I have a signed agreement with the buyer that if they don't want the puppy - it will come back to ME.
But that generally only happens when you show dogs - but it doesn't sound like that's the case here.
Otherwise - if the other person selling the puppies agrees to it - you aren't doing anything illegal.

Did you sign a contract when you bought the $649 puppy? If yes, does it say what you can do with the puppy if you can't keep it? If no, then you are at liberty to do as you please. But don't expect the $600 guy to go for a switch.

LEGAL, Yes. But he probably is not interested in trading. He is selling to pay for his expensive on his litter. And he knows the parents of his puppies and not yours.
If you haven't had the dog for very long you could probably get some type of refund from the original sellers....unless you have a reason you don't want to deal with them.
Your only other option would be to list it for sale and try you best to find a good home, don't just let anyone have him.

Was this from a Pet Shop??? I can't think of any breeder I've ever come across charging $649 for a puppy (It's usually round numbers).
It all depends on your contract - If you don't have a contract, then you can do whatever you want with it.

If you signed something with the breeder where you can not do this, then yes you can. In my contract a dog can not be sold, traded, leased or euthanized without my permission. The owners also sign that they will give me their new phone numbers and addys for the rest of the life of the dog. I have it in my contract that I can sue if someone sells a dog like this. So check your contract closely.

you are wanting to switch the same breed of puppy for $49 bucks in savings? i don't get it. why would you want to do that? if you don't want the dog, take it back to the breeder for crying out loud.

Unless you signed a contract stating otherwise, you can legally resell the dog or "swap" it if you can find someone willing.

Remember Ellen Degeneres. Read a contract if you signed one.
