more likely than not, the forbidden fruit was taken from any number of stories.
the adam and eve story is actually very closely paralleled to norse creation stories.
it is likely that it was taken from greek creation stories as well.

I don't really know how to answer this since I don't really believe there was an actual tree. I think it is a metaphor for something else.
But if there was an actual tree, then it was there before Adam and Eve (I think they came last). And as with all parents of new children, what reason did he have to believe that they would not obey? Adam and Eve had shown no previous disobedience.
Also, he wasn't watching from afar. In fact he did not know they had disobeyed him until he walked upon them and found them hiding from him and trying to cover themselves. Kind of calls the whole all knowing all seeing thing into question.

Adam and Eve weren't kids.
To argue that God was the culprit and that A and E were the victims is a good example of the fruit from the tree of good and evil. "Knowing" good and evil is to be entangled with the struggle of determining the difference.
Clearly, A and E committed an evil, yet one can struggle in recognizing the evil by erroneously blaming God for being a trickster. The error, of course, is that there was no trick. The warning was simple and clear. No omitted information and no fine print.

God put the tree there to show he was giving them a choice, free will, its called. I would not like people to worship me becoz they had to! I would say choose: me or not. And he wasn't watching from afar, he walked with Adam and Eve every day!! So, what do you think: should we have been mindless robots, or people who chose life or death?

These stories are meant as allegories. They are supposed to get you to think about what you would do in this situation. (In this case it's a question about curiosity. Since now we know that curiosity is a good thing, we can only say that this story is meant to keep people from questioning the status quo.) These stories, throughout different periods of civilization, have been used to control people by being interpreted literally. They were never meant to be.
Anthropologically, every culture that has ever arisen has told these types of stories.

God also stated He makes evil. ( Isaiah 45:7 ) The tree is the knowledge of right from wrong..good from evil... it's a parable.
Please , think further... God intends that we live forever..thats a reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly long time..right? yes it is. SO! We have alot to learn since we are all babies on the earth no matter how old we get while we are here..God said we all have to go before Him as children.. that means we are in a learning state here on the earth.. children are sponges ready to absorb all kinds of information ... and as we learn.. we also learn what to assimilate as important to love ..and also what is not important to learn ... in an extremely complicated way..God is teaching us to make logical decisions as we grow toward going to Him in eternity.

God put the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden of eden to give adam and eve a choice – to obey him or disobey him. adam and eve were free to do anything they wanted, except eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
if God had not given adam and eve the choice, they would have essentially been robots, simply doing what they were programmed to do. God created adam and eve to be “free” beings, able to make decisions, able to choose between good and evil. in order for adam and eve to truly be “free” – they had to have a choice.

What is free will without it? Lest you go to the claim that partaking outweighs the benefit of restraint, there is also the tree of life.
Be cautious. Attacking the other tree might hurt you.

God wanted His children to obey Him. They had everything....and only one tree set apart for Himself....the only thing they were not suppose to do is exactly what they did. It is not Gods fault. They chose to be disobedient to God and believe satan over His Word...and in so doing brought a curse over the entire earth and all within it.

Adam and Eve were supposed to mind. Just as you would hope your child would mind when you tell them to not touch a hot stove. There is temptation everywhere around us. Adam and Eve believed the lies of Satan. It is up to us to decide if we will mind or give into temptation.
