last saturday when i wasnt home, my 1 year old daughter got to him and "cuddled" him...to death. There was a fair amount of blood involved. When i got home and my hubby told me i just lost it and cryed for 2 days straight. I feel so guilty, and so sick thinking about it, i know my little girl can't be blamed because she had no idea. but i am completely traumatised now, what an awful way to go. Has it happened to anyone else?? how do you get over it...

A fair amount of blood???? This doesn't sound like a "death by hugging" incident, sounds like your hubby had something to do with this and is letting your daughter take the blame! Hugging does not cause an animal to bleed to death! Suffocate, maybe, but as the previous people said, there had to be a lot of noise going on, and if that's the case, the husband was probably involved or he would have been able to do something to stop it. Don't get any more animals if he isn't able to care for the child and a pet.

Before you get a kitten/puppy, you need to "educate" your child about the correct way to hold or pet the animal. It's not your daughter's fault that she wasn't ever taught this. I've had children and pets at the same time, and I realize that you can't watch them every minute. BUT, it seems to me, that if there was a "fair amount of blood involved", there must have been some SCREAMING, too. Either the kitten or the daughter, and your husband should have been able to hear and intervene, before the damage was done! I don't think he was paying enough attention to the one year old......and she could have just as easily eaten something that would hurt her, or fallen in the toilet! I don't think you should leave her alone w/him, anymore, if he can't pay more attention!! ALSO, PLEASE don't get another kitten til you've educated your daughter AND your husband. Even a puppy would have fared better than a 6 wk old kitten...(which was too young to be away from it's mother, anyway). I'm sorry you lost your pet, but maybe this will teach you something, and it won't happen again. "THEY" say.....everything happens for a reason! Sometimes we wish it wouldn't! Good luck..........

its not your daughters fault, but just make sure your husband it watching her next time and tell her not to hug so hard.

And what was your husband doing while this was happening? Sounds to me as if he is not a very attentive baby sitter.
