Its overweight if it eats alot and sleeps too much and will not play. It will also not have any visible ribs and may get stuck in the cat door :)

its definitely overweight if when ur cat runs, the tummy swings side to side, also if ur cats sides stick out more than the whiskers, it might lose balance rlly quick, so be careful if u have any areas that are high (like big cat condos)

The only way you can be sure your cat is overweight is to take him/her to the vet and ask about it. Every cat is different and your vet will weigh and measure him/her. Definitely take him/her to the vet if (s)he weighs more than 15 pounds.

I feed my cat canned food as she wants it and I keep dry food down in her bowl all of the time. She eats when she wants. If a cat is allowed to do that then they will stay fit on their own. Mine always has. If I deprive them and monitor their food they become fat. The cat won't be fat if you let them eat as little or as much as they want.

while its standing look at the cats waist, if the waist isnt smaller than the hips its overweight.

When you look straight down on the cat (you're standing up), and you can't see a "waist" behind it's ribcage, then it's too fat!

While he's standing, run your hands down his sides. If you can't easily feel his ribs, he may be a little tubby.
