I'm in the process of finishing my waiver stuff and my recruiter thinks he can have me "in" next week, so I have to go back to MEPS and sign my contract. I have a GED and a drug waiver from when I was 17. Would I still be eligible to even attend Ranger school? No one seems to think I will have any problem getting Airborne as I am in perfect health and scored 81 on my ASVAB. I am going for 11B as my mos.
Thanks for any info.

Other than that one arrest as a kid, I have nothing else on my record. I've never even gotten a speeding ticket.

My arrest record is sealed, only the military can see it, it was reduced to a misdemeanor possession charge and I had to do probation. I'm getting a waiver for it and the recruiter said it's no problem, I just want to know if it can restrict me from Ranger school

Yes...you can get both Airborne and Ranger in your contract...but you will still have to attend RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program) first, and if you pass that you will go to Ranger School...if it is in your contract you will at least get to attempt it..but if you fail RIP you can not go then, but you can reapply...you can always wait and try to get Ranger School after you get to your first unit...but it is harder...best to tell the Career Counselor at MEPS that you want to be Ranger and Airborne...they will hook you up...11B's get first shot...a guy I fish with is the CSM of the Ranger Training BDE...Ranger School is hard, but if you can suck it up and drive on you will make it...Airborne all you have to do is get the nuts to jump out of the plane...good luck

Be very careful and DO NOT let them rush your signature with any verbal promises. When I was in the service the most often heard complaint (and the one we all played little imaginary violins to -) started out "my recruiter lied to me -".
Bottom line: use your common sense. If Ranger School has an 'A' school and a 'B' school, you can sometimes get a written guarrantee for the 'A' school. You can almost never get written guarrantee for the 'B' school because you simply can't guarrantee you will pass 'A' school. So do what I did,
I picked a job field where the 'A' school was long and expensive (in my case it was a 6 month school). I figured that
if they spent that much time and money on me no way were they going to screw me on my job choice.
If you get a written guarrantee for a school that lasts , oh, say
6 weeks, then you should be prepared for the possibility that
you will get assigned to some other job when you finish school. One way to prevent that is to really crack down and bust your butt in school. After all, if you finish in, say, the top
5% of your class, why would they NOT give that job?
The Army is reknowned for giving people jobs they didn't come in for, but that's because the Army has so many jobs
and so many bases and so many people that they have to fill,
it's nearly impossible not to.
Get the best written guarrantee you can get, force yourself to do well in school (and military schools are nothing like High School, it's totally different), don't oversleep, don't talk back,
jump at any chance to shine (without being an ***) and you
can ALMOST promise yourself that you'll get what you want.

It would be a whole lot easier to get them if they're in your contract. If not, you have to apply for them and go through the selection process.
Worry about Airborne School first, while you're there the Ranger recruiters will come around.

No you can not get ranger school in your contract.
You have to be an E-4 to attend ranger school, unless you are assigned to the ranger regiment..
You can get a RIP contract, that will allow you to attend RIP, ranger indoc program and be assigned to a ranger regiment.
It will be your performance after that, that sees you get a slot in ranger school.
You would fail ranger school if they let you attend after AIT and RIP, you would not be in good enough physical shape and you would not have the soldier skills necessary.

talk to another recruiter annonymously or even to yours if you think you can trust him but they HAD to have checked on you before you enlisted. even though the military is lowering it's standards because they're so desperate for personnel they might overlook it. if you didn't kill anyone and this was minor crap it might not matter. if you've really turned a new leaf one thing you might want to do is call the court that has your cases and see if you can have your record expunged. it can be after a certain amount of time.

I don't know about this business of being in a contract. If you are physically fit, can undergo the training and you can qualify, then why should they not accept you? Because indeed, even if you have a contract, if you can't cut the mustard, then you're out of that program.

If it's NOT in your contract that you sign... THEN THERE IS NO GUARENTEE!!! I went into the Navy in 1992, wanting to be a Navy SEAL. Nothing is set, unless it is in writing.
If you are sitting at the desk, and tells you to sign... read it. If it doesn't say what you want, WALK OUT THE EFFIN DOOR!
All they want is to recruit you. They really don't give a rat's *** as to what YOU want.
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED my years in the Navy, and wouldn't trage them for the world. Just be VERY careful. READ EVERYTHING!!!
