neither are the best choices for children.the main thing is that the children respect the animals and treat them with kindness.if the kids are mean or tease the dogs and wrestle around the dog will become aggressive and will hurt the child.people are too quick to blame the dog when very often it is a child that abuses the dog that causes the attack, that said i prefer chihuahuas because they are small and will not do the damage of a massive pit bull.do not leave kids and animals unattended.better safe than sorry.good luck.

Assuming both have come from good breeders, a pit bull is probably a better choice than a chihuahua. In general (certainly there are individuals in any breed that don't fit the mold), small breeds tend to be more nippy with kids. Pit bulls may unintentionally hurt a small child just because they are a bit larger and so enthusiastic, but an accidental bump is not as dangerous as an intentional bite.

Both are not good choices.

Unless you, as a parent, are willing to be there to supervise the interaction between the dog and the kids, don't get a dog (or any pet, actually).

Animals and kids are unpredictable and are not a good match. Unless the kids are older (ie: 8 years old or older) and can share in the responsibility and treat the dog with dignity and care, then do yourself a favor and don't get a dog.
