Of course not. No matter what the item is, I do not expect this. If I saw this person regularly and I never saw them wear it at all, I might figure they just didn't like it and I might be a little disappointed.
In fact, I might be a little suspicious if they were wearing it the next time i saw them, especially if I don't see them often. If its a shirt, I might think, is she just wearing it becuase she knows I gave it to her, and does she never wear it unless she's going to see me? you could make yourself crazy thinking about it. Just give the gift and forget about it.

Not at all.
If I was wearing your gift it would either be because:
a) I wear it all the time and didn't even realise I had it on again.
or
b) I hate it and the only reason I'm wearing it is because I know you'll be expecting me to.
So take it as a compliment if it's in the wash and not on their backs!

depends what gift it is. If it's something that can be worn that time, i would request them to wear it at that time just to see how it looks on them or whether they are happy with it(keeping in mind the returns policy) or something that can tried later(garment etc), i would like them to let me know if they liked it, as soon as they can(again, if i would like to return it if they don't like, size etc).
Don't really expect them to wear it the next time they see me.

No, you should expect nothing !
If they do happen to wear it make sure you say something complimentary and not "where did you get that?".
Its best not to buy wearable very personal gifts unless you are well acquainted. Scarves and gloves are less personal and so are advertising T-shirts.

I give gifts because I want to make people happy. I choose not to make myself crazy by checking to see if they wear/use it right away or ever. Do yourself a favor, when you give something, just let it go and don't worry about it!

No. Once a gift is given, the person is under no obligation to use it or wear it.
