Prayer is a form of communication, and there are different kinds of communications: petitions, thank yous, praises, and all of these might be applied to you. I might ask you a favor, thank you for a favor, or compliment you on your good attributes.
Worship is also a form of communication, but it wouldn't be appropriate to worship you, since you are no better than I am.

I think that prayer is both a system of communication and of worship. But I also think that it depends on what kind of praying you are doing because sometimes when I pray it is undeniably a form of worship but other times the way I pray could be viewed as just babbling on and on about fairly irrelevant stuff to my best friend.

Only God answers the prayers of those who are TRULY SEEKING HIM. Those who have been made righteous through Jesus Christ--because of HIM!

Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

And Chippy, please ponder this verse--
Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

I thought prayer was a kind of beseeching, a request. You are right, prayer is communication. But I don't speak to God the same way I speak to you, so the word "prayer" is referring to type of communication.

According to my viewpoint, I see prayer as a means of telepathically communicating with the Universe. Our beliefs can change our reality, and the more we think about something, the more in will become manifested into our reality. Try thinking about a blue leaf for a few days, and it will manifest.

My aren't we big for our britches!!! Pray to you? How would you know what I said???!!!!
Only the one true God can hear my thoughts, NOT even satan can say that! So yes, it is a form of communicating with Him, but can also be a form of worship. Just between me and my Lord.......................
Truly, you should get on your knees and ask Him into your heart and repent of your sins. Right now I'd say your biggest one being that people should pray to you!!!

I would mind; it would be a waste of my time to pray to a person.

Prayer is primarily meditation, and the best prayer is transcendental.

So unless you can sense me when I pray love at you and attempt to pierce the 'cloud' that separates us...I'm afraid I'm not going to be praying to you. (g)

"To pray" is an old fashioned and formal way of saying "to ask". Attorneys still commonly "pray" for all sorts of things from a judge.

The difference is that prayer is a solemn request or thanksgiving to an object of worship.

You are not an object of worship.
I would never pray to you.

All you're doing.......

Chippy, please pray for me that I may be a blessed wiggly - giggly - giggly giraffe whom keeps converstaions interesting.

Prayer is a bit more than communication ... but ah, yeah it is communicating. When we follow the commandments: "Love God above all" ... well, we should communicate formally with God, and informally (like txt msg'ing to God). Once we're good at communicating with God, our other communications fall into alignment and we have more loving relations.
