I just made a batch of hardboilded eggs... when I opened them up some had gray coating on usually yellow yolk.... but not all of them. Does this mean some of the eggs were older/cooked too long/???? It tastes fine but is visually yucky to the eater. Why does this happen?

This tends to happen if the eggs are cooked too long.

Here's how I do them:

Place eggs in saucepan and cover with 1" of water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a full boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let stand for 10 minutes. Drain eggs and place them in a bowl of ice water until cool.

Overcooking is probably the problem. Cooling them faster also helps prevent some of this. I drain and use an icewater bath as soon as they are done cooking. For boiling eggs, I place the eggs on their side the night before. This helps center the yolk for good looks in deviled eggs. I place in a pot of water with salt and bring to a boil. Let boil for 2 minutes and then remove from heat. Cover with a tight fitting lid and let set for 18 to 20 minutes. Drain and cool quickly.

That happened because of two things...
You either had the water boiling to hard or
You cooked them too long.
Next time bring them to a boil, then turn down the heat to just barely a simme,r or not even, and cook them for 15 minutes.

They are fine to eat the way you did it though.

I don't know why it happens (sulfur I think) but several cooking shows lately showed how to cook eggs so that doesn't happen. http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/005251how_to_make_perfect_hard_boiled_eggs.php
