Army is hard to explain. From a wife's POV:
Imagine buying a king sized bed and sleeping in it for 1.5 years alone. Then he comes home and leaves 3 months later. Imagine doing all holidays alone, and birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Imagine being at the PO so much, the mail carriers, and tellers know you by name. Imagine not being able to sleep until you get a call from your spouse after seeing they were attack on CNN, and then getting 3 hours of sleep until its time for him to go a mission, and then staying up and waiting for him to call to say he is alright. Imagine getting letters telling you they love you, just to tell you in case its the last time you hear from them. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm assuming that you are asking about being enlisted. Basically you start off as a Private and you are everyone's b***h for about 3-4 years. You spend most of your time picking up trash and basically do the s**t work that your superiors don't want to do. Once you make sergeant you start to get a little bit of respect. Just do what you're told and try to make rank as quickly as possible.
