A person who is very close to me was raped in Hawaii. The man who raped her lives in her apartment complex. She reported it to the police and now, there is a mere temporary restraining order. Even after the assault, he continues to video tape her when she steps outside. This was also reported to the police, but still--they did nothing. Do not vacation in Hawaii. The man who raped her goes under a modeling agency, Lucas Marketing Services. What can be done about this situation? He continues to stalk her and the police do nothing because she is frightened to talk abou the events that occurred. She is now physically and psycologically ill, and I fear that if it continues she could lose it forever....

Tell her to call the Prosecutors office where she filed the charges at, tell her she will have to explain the situation a little more in detail and ask for some kind of Police protection! Explain that the guy has not stopped trying to scare her and ask why he is not being held without bail?

I'm totally shocked that all she received was a restraining order on the guy and that he wasn't prosecuted. Rape is a Felony charge. I just don't understand WHY only a TRO was given. If, as you say, that your friend was raped and Justice did not prevail, then maybe she should take it to the Media and expose the injustice. Not to mention, him being a Video Voyeur on top of that.

Bottom line, without the necessary information from the Victim herself, I find it very hard to believe that a Rapist only received a TRO. Any Media would LOVE to report on incidences such as that. Exploiting INJUSTICE is the only recourse. So, I say, EXPLOIT the INJUSTICE with no remorse. After all, anyone who has experienced an injustice, is being raped by the system as well.

I'm so sorry that it happened to your friend but your also forgetting that rape happens everywhere vacationing or not. You can't base Hawaii only on that. It's not fair and very discriminating. As for your friend she needs to seek help. I'm sure she has somewhere she can go or another place that she can stay. I do agree with you about the police not really doing anything nowadays but giving tickets to people for the most smallest and stupid violations. It's not right but what can we really do? We need to make the change and your friend needs do what she needs to do to get better. I hope the best for her. . .

I am sorry that this happened to your friend & am not sure why it is being handled the way it is. I hope she will get some help to deal with this trauma.

But overall, the crime stats for Honolulu are good. Here is 2005 data for overall violent crimes 283/100,000 in Honolulu vs 554/100.00 national average. And for rape it was 26/100,000 vs 35/100,000 national average. So please don't discourage people from vacationing in Hawaii because of this incident.

Has she contacted Victim Services at the prosecutor's office? That should be the first step--they can be her advocate as she goes through this. She can also talk to the Sex Abuse Treatment Center. I can imagine this is very scary -- she needs to get support!

Call the newspapers & television stations on the phone & also send them e mails about the case. The media is always looking for stories. Be persistent. Write a form letter & send it to everyone you can think of.

it's too bad that this happened to your friend, but remember that rape happens just about anywhere you go. so don't discourage other people from vacationing over here in hawaii.

does she have anywhere else to stay? if she has any friends or family around, she should go there for a while.

That is awful, and very scary. Has she considered moving away? Maybe to a different part of the island?
