If you have a flint it's really easy,But if you dont it is going to be hard. reach down into ur pocket and get some pocket lent pull it out it is very easy to get it to lite and burn.Try finding 2 rocks that are smooth such as river rock strike them together and see if it will make sparks once you find the right ones ur almost ready to geta fire going. then go find some dry moss like one a side of a tree, rock, ect.& get some dead tree bark start building a fire small then keep building it until u get ur desired flame. if you cant find any moss. The moss Im talking about is not the dark green . it is the mint colored very pale in color.

Find all the stuff everyone else told you to get...twigs..etc..
Find a dry piece of wood, flat as possible and a small block of wood that will fit in your palm. Next locate a couple of dry sticks about 1/2" to 1" diameter, both 10 to 12 inches long. Remove a lace from your boot or Tenny-runner. (Cowboys will have trouble here, unless your from Dallas) Tie the lace to each end of one stick, like a loose bowstring. Put the second stick between the first stick and the lace, and twist it around so that the lace makes a circle around it. Place one end of the second stick on the larger flat piece of wood, and the other end press down with the small piece of wood in your palm. Now use a 'sawing' motion with the bow, causing the second stick to twirl on the block of wood. Keep the 'kindling' near the twirling point on the block of wood. You should see a whiff of smoke shortly.
I did this once in the snow, under a pine tree, so I know it can be done.
Good Luck.

Your best bet is to see if you can find a piece of flint and use it in conjunction with your knife to make sparks to set tinder on fire. if you cannot find any flint, the next chioce is one of the friction methods. The best of these is the bow drill. You can use a boot lace to make the string, a green limb to make the bow, a dry stick to make the drill, a piece of dry soft wood to make the board and a bird nest to make the tinder. The next method is to use a piece of dry stick about a couple feet long and a flat piece of dry soft wood for the trough. Use the end of the stick to rub rapidly back and forth on the trough until a coal is formed. Carefully place it into some tinder and blow it until it bursts into flame. The least effective means is to make a hand drill. You need a stick much like the one for the previous method and a flat piece of wood l;ike the one used for the bow drill method. You hold the drill between your hands and spin it back and forth while pressing down with your hands. It is a long procedure and very hard on the hands but it can work. For a better description of these methods, refer to an outdoor survival manual.

If you mean without a lighter and at night time thus no magnifying glass... you will have to use friction of some kind like a bow. You could also use a flint or a magnesium fire starter which are much easier.

Is this some kind of test to prove you can do it?
I would definitely take matches or a lighter if at all possible. I mean you can do it, but you are going to take a lot of time and effort to get it lit. matches and or a lighter take up so little space too.
Friction: rubbing two sticks fast enough to create heat enough to light grasses and other easy started material, then once you have a flame, add small sticks, and keep adding bigger and bigger sticks.
Flint: striking a flint rock until a spark is emitted onto grasses and other easy starting material (like bark and thin shreds of bark) until you get a small flame, then again keep adding bigger and bigger pieces of sticks until you have a nice fire

OK, if Zeus doesn't show up, gather a small pile of small DRY branches, pine needles and dead grass (dead grass or leaves and dead pine needles will catch fire faster). Find two stones, one with a slightly sharpened edge. Holding one stone close to the tinder (dry stuff), hit it hard with the slightly sharp stone in the direction of the tinder. If you do it right, it will spark and catch the tinder on fire. Blow gently on the spark to get it to blaze more. Then gently feed more dry stuff until the fire is burning independently. Don't get discouraged; it's hard to start a fire with stones.

If you have a flint it's really easy! Otherwise, you have to do it the old-fashioned and extremely time consuming way by rubbing two sticks together on some leaves. Read some survival skills books and/or watch survival type shows such as "Man vs Wild".

DRY tinder, DRY wood, you choose what you set it alight with because you have exactly fifteen minutes by ANY law to make that fire smokeless, (hot enough to burn, red heat) you also have to make the fire containable, repeat, containable, so the surrounding area has been cleared .........so no breakthrough can occur....make a clearing before you start...make a dugout.anyway, make sure its a responsible fire and then you can keep making them, don't go for the burnout, it doesn't last long enough to enjoy.xx xx
