MEXICO CITY, Nov 19 (IPS) - Panic has taken hold of the six million Mexicans who live in the United States without residence permits, because of the ongoing crackdown on "illegal aliens", which has involved an increasing number of raids and deportations.

The Mexican government has announced measures in defence of its citizens across the border, and insists that immigration reform is urgently needed in the U.S. However, the indications are that there will be no reform until 2009 at the earliest.

"We are being harassed and persecuted, and I confess we are extremely nervous. We don’t feel that Mexico is helping us at all," Freddy Batista, a Mexican immigrant who has worked in building maintenance in Los Angeles, California for four years, told IPS. "I’ve thought about not taking my son (aged 12) to school anymore, because they might capture me, or him, and then we’d be separated, which would not be fair to him. But what can I do? He can’t stay home or go into hiding," said Batista in a telephone interview from Los Angeles.

They ARE clueless Thomasina! What Freddy says..."We are being harassed and persecuted, and I confess we are extremely nervous. We don’t feel that Mexico is helping us at all," Freddy Batista, a Mexican immigrant who has worked in building maintenance in Los Angeles..."
shows not only that Freddy thinks is that what he is doing is OK, he also thinks that Mexico should be helping him.
Notice too that the account incorrectly identifies Freddy as an immigrant while in fact he is an illegal alien, a criminal, who SHOULD be afraid. We WILL get them all!

It's huge and no matter what you say or do, there is no sympathy for anyone who complains about illegal immigrants on tv. Everyone knows it is wrong but we are all supposed to be sympathetic and feel sorry for there plight. There is going to be a war. It's pretty much imminant. People are really getting sick of the government and illegal immigrants. They bankrupted California. They're trying to do that to the country. It's disgusting.

See that is part of their problem they can't count. Six million, try more like 30 million!

I think it is fabulous! Harassed and persecuted my patooty! "Victims" of the US enforcing it's laws. Mexico has some of the toughest immigration laws and enforces them. The United States should have been doing the same for the last 40 years and we wouldn't be having this problem now.

Who gives a care what some illegal named Batista has to say? Why does the liberal media insist on interviewing illegal aliens and printing what they have to say?

What do they expect them to say? Yes I agree, the US should deport me. Why don't they ask American taxpaying citizens what they think?

The Mexican Government insists that immigration reform is needed in the US? Actually I agree with that statement and I propose we adopt their policies to the letter!!! Then let's see what they have to say.

The Americans are racist people & I am not happy that country were I was born. Which is the U.S.. The Chinese immigrants are the highest percent of being in the U.S.. illegally. Why they here? Because low pay & Communist. In Mexico is low pay & they just want to survive & protect there family.

I am a American-Mexican. I KNOW. I got stop twice buy the Police just to check me if I had any weapons? I think because I am Latin. But, who should I blame? The American Government or Americans?

Am I supposed to shed a tear over this guy Freddy's kid if they get split up. This guy knew the consequences of coming here illegally. If there is anyone to blame it is himself. How is this a hard concept??

So from the answers I've read, it's ok to separate the son and the father because they've crossed a territorial border to work hard and eat.
This scenario is actually happening in Round Rock TX. There are people being held there because the ICE is unsure of their status. Guards are impregnating the women and then walking away. Pregnant women are being left for days at a time to fend for themselves. It's not a possible scenario it's real and actual.
Think, little 8 year old girls separated from their parents for undetermined amounts of time. Held in captivity and nobody being told when it's going to be over. It can't be proved they are illegal. Some are document jams in the process even. But this is ok because they might be illegal.
The law of this country says you have a right to due process no matter who you are or where you come from. And under these precepts each person is innocent until they are proven to be guilty. If you are so set to jump and complain that they've broken the law then you are standing directly against the Constitution of the United States. Or you arguments have absolutely no solid grounding at all.
