Well, the only Lakotah ("Sioux") I personally knew wasn't all that "religious" in any sense we'd recognize it, although he wasn't beyond a few buttons of peyote now and again.

Not real "religious" in the way western society would recognize, but the were very spiritual. If you have access to a library, I would go there and look at the writings of Ed McGaa.
