I do, I know lot's of them. Does it bother anyone else that there are so many people who feel so strongly that the Iraq war is justified and could serve their country and assist the war effort by joining the Military... but do not? Is that hypocritical? I try to understand how a person can reconcile their staunch support for the war with their unwillingness to serve, but I can't seem to come to grips with it.

yup, i know a lot of them too. I've also had to bite my tongue when i have heard young men of fighting age in a bar talking like we are in a football game "we're kicking there *** over there" ....ect.....ect. lots of talk for guys that have never and probably will never serve.

hypocritical.......yup

edit: this is for everyone saying "i support putting out fires...blah blah blah" and "they aren't under any obligation"
while those are true statements, if your going to run your mouth and you whole heartedly support the mission and you are ABLE to serve you should or you should shut your mouth.

The military doesn't need just any able-bodied people anymore. Most branches have the same problem: they're overstaffed, yet have some rates (or MOSes if you're not Navy) that are undermanned.

The military needs skilled soldiers and sailors, and those skills are always changing. There's a lot of able-bodied people out there that, honestly, the military can't do anything with except provide a roof over their head and three square meals a day. And every person we add to the military is a few million dollars the government doesn't have to spend on other parts of the military.

It is a little silly when someone buys a bunch of ribbons for their car and spends all their time bragging about how supportive they are. But, given the choice between having them feel like they're doing something important, and actually having them join, nine times out of ten the first is preferable.

Also, sometimes the guy that puts all those stickers on his car gives some of his hard-earned cash to the military, or works on civil service or military contracts. Which help the military a hell of a lot more than them actually serving would.

Billyboy and NoahTall had the right idea... funny how many people gave them thumbs-down. I wonder if anyone who gave them thumbs-down actually SERVED in Iraq. To be quite honest, I know far, far, far more people between those ages and are able-bodied who DON'T support the war, but also DON'T have the foggiest idea about what's going on there. They're all very opinionated about the war, of course... and not one would ever consider joining the military themselves, even during peacetime. They're more of the opinion that their country owed THEM something, despite the fact that most of them contribute little, if anything. But to actually work for their keep and give a few years of their life for something bigger and better than themselves? Oh, of course not. Don't try to play the game of "war supporters not supporting the war"--most of the people actually FIGHTING in this war believe in winning it, and if you'd really been there, you'd know that. A few loud-mouthed dissidents isn't going to change that.

Anyone with so much passion and uses words like patriotism and support bush should step up and show their love for the country whos freedoms they bask in.

But it shows a persons character, when they can stand by their words.

Ive seen too many Bush supporters that talk the biggest game, and will follow bush to the ends of the earth -- until it comes time for them to truly show how much they love their country.

Republicans are more interested in supporting bush then they are loving american values.

All I can say is I signed on the line and did my time, and Ive earned my freedom of speech.

Its a shame when too many bush supporterrs choose the easy way out.
But then, if bush couldnt do it himself...his followers are in his foot steps.

Bush couldnt stomach what he forces todays soldiers to endure. Thats what makes him a pathetic excuse for an american.
even worse are those that stand by him, inspite of his cowardice

P.S. toSILAS -- trying to get by saying the military is overstaffed????
What facts are you reading and what are you smoking?

And military doesnt just need able bodied -- YES they do.
you can be a cook, a water purification an NBC a Supply clerk, a truck driver.
Theres tons of MoS' that any abled bodied person can do...and any bush supporter SHOULD do.

But it proves the point I often make...

republicans are republicans first.
American when it suits them

Yep, I know alot of them, doesn't bother me a bit.

You cannot expect a 30 year old, with a mortage and family, to chuck his job and enlist as an E-1 making $1,301 a month.

I also know alot of people who support abortions, and not one of them, has ever performed an abortion.

I know alot of people who support gun rights, who do not own a firearm.

It is a little different for a 18 - 24 year old, who could easily enlist, with no negative consiquences, ( unless they were on scholorship at a univ )

But expecting someone who has a long term stable job and family, to chuck it away to enlist for 3 or 4 years at a pay rate that will cause his family harm.

Thats just not realistic.

The people that are hypocrites are the ones that think that anyone that supports the war should join the military.

Since Nixon abolished the draft, the military has been all voluntary. Nobody is required to serve, even if some coward thinks they should.

Of course it's not hypocritical.

Not everyone can make it in the military. Those who know they cannot shouldn't try.

There are plenty of us who can to ge the job done if the goofballs who are opposed to it, especially the ones in Congress, would get out of our way and let us.

In addition, no matter how many of us there are over there, or in uniform, none of it matters if the homefront goes to heck. We need people here buying and selling and working and saving and living and loving to make what we do happen and be worthwhile.
