In general I have a high pain tolerance (I can get my finger caught in a door, stub my toe so hard that it bleeds, or hit my head really hard without even wincing), but when someone touches my shoulder it HURTS and I feel this wave of irrational irritation. Why are my shoulders so sensitive?

(I have some chronic pain too, but I was wondering about this in particular.)

I was out one day with a sharp pair of pruners to take twigs off a bush. I came in and my Mother screamed? Seems I had mistaken a twig for my elbow and blood everywhere? By the time Mother a Nurse had clean it up, big chunk of skin was hanging out and Mother wanted 'stitches' to stop the bleeding. I just sat their with my arm out above my head and after 30 minutes it stopped, mind you I have a nice scar? The reason, when you injury yourself if you are distracted you will not notice, because you are concentrating on something else. However for reason only you know about, probably in the past, the shoulder being touched evokes a bad memory! It could be someone you trusted who used to tap you on the shoulder, place their hand on that shoulder, was disloyal and so now if anyone touches that shoulder, it is acting like a lie detector, sends off warning signals. Just think about people in your past, those who you trusted and then they let you down!
