Doesn't the verse below say there was no god before God and will be no God after Him? If no god was formed before Him and will not be formed after Him how can you believe He was created by another god or that you will become gods?
Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

CC - yes I listened to the mp3 or most of it at least. I couldn't take you up on your ipod suggestion as I don't have one. So I listened on my comp and it was a bit hard to catch some of it. I found it interesting but still a bit annoying in parts.

Lorenzo Snow said, "As man is, God once was. As God is, man may become".
LDS need to reconcile this doctrine with Isaiah 43:10 & other verses like:
Isaiah 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
1 Corinthians 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
Ephesians 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
jeffrey - Genesis 3:5 is Satan talking. That is the first lie Satan told people - that we would be like God. The only way we have become like God because of that is that we now know what good and evil are.
caldwemj - Thanks for answering. I was wondering how LDS got around this verse with good conscience.
Why tear down other's beliefs? Paul did. Peter did. Jesus did. Why?
John 8:32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
To not share the truth, would not be love - it would be lying by omission.
About this verse. Is it really out of context? Yes - Jesus is our only Lord and Savior. He also said - There is no God formed before or after him. How is that out of context?
Have you considered that God made the heavens and the heaven of heavens (Nehemiah 9:6) so He owns all heavens? There is no heaven to be God of.
Deuteronomy 10:14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
Isolde - Let's finish the quote that it comes from:
Psalms 82:1-8 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. (2) How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. (3) Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. (4) Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. (5) They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. (6) I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. (7) But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. (8) Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
Notice "gods" with a little g. Note also Exodus 4:16 and Exodus 7:1 talks about this also. Moses was like God to the people, because He judged and spoke in God's place. Basically, Psalm 82 is a warning for corrupt judges.
Jesus quoted it when they were going to stone him for blasphemy. If you read the rest in John, Jesus is basically saying if they are "gods", how much more so is He. Verse 7 is interesting.
Brother G - I have read Paul and about the Godhead. He clearly states Jesus is God and God the Father is God and the Holy Spirit is God. He also states in Timothy and Ephesians that God is one. This is oversimplified obviously, a triangle has 3 sides - there is one triangle though.

In order to understand scripture you cannot pick and choose single verses out of a chapter, you need to read the entire chapter or section and put it into context. This chapter in Isaiah (including the scripture you quoted) is explaining that Christ is the one and only Savior of mankind, a point of view that is fully in line with Mormon doctrine.
I have never understood why other people waste so much time and energy tearing down and bashing others beliefs, whatever they may be. Don't you think that your time would be better served building up your own faith rather than tearing down others by spreading misinformation and intolerance?

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

You can say that against trinitarian concept of God.
Read about Paul and the Godhead.

I do have a lot of respect for mormons because they are usually very good people, but this is one of the many teachings of theirs that makes absolutely no sense.
Also, you can become a god yourself eventually, just like our God. They tend not to focus on those things when your'e first learning about the faith.

Not just that they believe in many gods, they also believe they can become gods if they do well enough here on earth.

look returned at John a million:a million: in the beginning up grew to become into the word, and the word grew to become into WITH God, AND the word grew to become into God. Now, how ought to Jesus be WITH God, AND on the comparable time BE God? How can all people be WITH somebody in the event that they are that somebody? The verse does not say "...grew to become into the word and the word grew to become into WITH Himself, and the word grew to become into Himself". You supply what may be a conceivable rationalization for why Christ talked approximately as out to His Father on the circulate. yet what approximately in the backyard of Gethsemane? He grew to become into fairly lucid then, no longer in soreness, understanding precisely what He doing. He prayed that His disciples could be one as He and the daddy have been one. Does that advise that Jesus needed all his disciples to connect with grow to be one man or woman?
