I really cannot believe the answers here. I am amazed that the ones who consider that they have a scientific mind must point a finger at all Christians for not agreeing with Darwin's theory of Evolution. Let me point out that, once again we have a generalization lumping all Christians together.

Regarding viruses, we have become a society bent on cleanliness, and therefore are more susceptible to germs. When we find a "cure" or deterrent, the virus or germ or bug, whatever, adapts to the conditions, mutates if you will, just as humans have adapted to conditions on earth since the caveman first appeared. Adaptation is not the same as evolution. We haven't turned into a form of energy yet, and I still don't believe we were once cold-blooded lizards. Just like the dinosaurs, our time will pass. Maybe the cockroach will take over.

No, I'm not surprised at all. The lay person is clueless when it comes to science...and what they don't understand, they reject. Another good example would be the recent rise of antibiotic-resistant strains of Strep that are surfacing this year. The bacteria has adapted to the many anti-bacterials found in everyday soaps and such to become resistant. But I guess the fundies would just argue that god must have created a new strain this year. Education may be the key, but how often will education erase brainwashing-from-birth?

No not surprised at all. "Micro evolution", without realizing that there is *only * micro evolution, is acceptable and even accepted in some creationist circles.

Not realizing that "micro" is the way that evolution works is just another in a long list of things that creationist stay willfully ignorant of.

Edit:
On the topic of life, true, viruses may not be complex life however bacteria are alive and evolve nearly as quickly as well, look at the antibiotic resistant strains we have today. Also of interest is that fire may be considered to be "alive" as it meets the criteria of breaths, eats and reproduces.

Well......I'm one of them. *snicker*

But I'm guessing it's something that was vaguely alluded to in that Nova program I watched the other day. Heck, maybe I'll even follow that there link and see what all the hubbub is about.

Me, Me, Me!! What's the connection? Is it the fact that viruses adapt? Or the fact that they mutate? Are they make from synthetic material or it it grown or cultivated from living viruses? What's up?

I am surprised that people talking about viral evolution. Doesn't something have to be alive to evolve? Science is not even certain viruses are alive. But lets say they are and they do evolve. Are they still viruses? The answer is obviously yes.

Are you suggesting that flu shots evolved, or are you simply pointing out that the flu viruses are constantly changing?

2007-11-20 14:28:58 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 4 2

Nope. I'm amazed by evolutionist's ability to constantly alter the meaning of the word evolution.
