Do you feel that a lot of what you find in the supermarket is rubbish? So much food these days is processed with colors, preservatives, MSG, etc. then irradiated and who knows what else. How can you feed your kids blue juice, cookies for breakfast as their cereal, and nitrate laden bologne? And then we may ask, how does this all correlate to hyperactivity, ADHD, obesity, diabetes and cancer etc.

I do just about everything everyone here mentions, cook from scratch, buy organic etc. I just wanted to make a mention of the foods in the supermarkets in the hope some people out there who don't realize this may stop supporting this type of industry and also go organic. When cooking from scratch you can often save money. A little pre-planning like soaking your own beans and buying in bulk and keeping things in the freezer, can save a lot of money. I also believe we should support as many local organic farms as we can, shop locally.

Yes, i feel this way as well. At least in california, there are plenty of organics stores such as Tradre Joe's that I can just go to. They really value the ingredients in what they sell.

Shop the walls in the market, the real foods are normally place around the edges.
The junk is in the middle. Go left, or right and get your produce. Avoid the junk aisles.

I think the same things, when I walk up the aisles, I say, junk to the right, junk to the left, junk, junk, junk.

And I see Mom's checking out and look in her basket and there is no food there. Bottles of drink with no fruits (SUGAR WATER), processed box noodles with artificial cheese power, Prepared and processed boxes of chemicals, labeled helper, just add to, heat and service, no pan needed. God I want to jerk the items and throw them at her. But her children are standing beside her with a bar of candy, a carbonated drink and a bag of chips. So I just let her go home and poison her children.

There is a direct link between the westernized diet and heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and ADHD, and certainly diabetes. It is estimated by scientists that 70 to 90% of all disease in the US would disappear if we could improve the diets. When other countries adopt our diets their national health declines. Their DNA didn't change, just their diets.

A great book on diet and diseases by Dr. Campbell The China Study.

Yes. Yes, they are *completely* full of junk. And even if you're vigilant, it's tough to catch everything.

I don't know about ADHD/hyperactivity, but there's no doubt in my mind - or many researchers - about the links to obesity, diabetes and cancer.

And yet, I will say that in the past few years, there are more and better alternatives than ever before. I'm a big fan of Annie's Organics products - it sounds like you're in the UK, not sure if they're available there - and Kashi. It puts our grocery bill through the roof, but it's worth it to eat cereal and crackers that might actually be food.

stay long adequate and you will comprehend that each and each year, you will pay attention that each and all of the landfills will top off in the subsequent 10 years. (or each and all of the oil will run out, or each and all of the nutrition would be long previous, or the inhabitants will explode, or the coastal cities would be under water, or the money will develop into valueless, or the Russians will take over the international, or the eastern, or the chinese language, and so forth) Ive been listening to all of this for the final 40 years. in no way next year, in no way 50 years, constantly around 10 years. Makes a powerful line. think of approximately it, does it make any experience there wont be any land left to make a landfills in 9 years? I even have constantly questioned that if somebody rather has a element to make, why would they might desire to magnify? i think hyperbole does sell greater books and flicks and makes greater money than, properly, thinking...

most of the things you would find in the grocery stores (and just stores in general) is crap. it *is* processed and closer to a chemistry experiment than actual food.

i prefer to buy my food from a local coop, and purchase mostly fresh fruits and vegetables.

i would recommend staying away from all the frozen 'dinners' and colored childrens cereals....as well as high fructose corn syrup drinks.

the way it correlates to the illnesses you mentioned......straight up simple sugars raise blood sugar levels very quickly, and often have little or no fiber to slow down the effect. that in itself wreaks havoc on your body. hyperactivity can be a result of too much of said simple sugars.
cancer can be caused by just about anything these days...but as far as food goes....take a look at the ingredient list of just about any processed/prepackaged food these days...and youll see a long list of chemical names of which you can probably barely prenounce...and have no knowledge of what they are. sodium benzoate, for example..is in a multitude of foods...can cause cancer and other illnesses....its also an ingredient in fireworks.

corporations will label anything as food as long as it saves them money and tastes edible. its all about profit.

I am not trying to be rude, but maybe you should do a bit of old-fashioned home baking, using your own fruit and vegetables and buy the chicken yourself instead of ready meals. If you don't like what people buy, don't buy it yourself and you can sit & laugh at the people that do.
Home cooking is so much healthier then ready meals and takeaways though and you know EXACTLY what yr putting in your food.. xx

Right on! Just read the labels: fat, saturated fat, poly fats, mono fats, etc., and everythig, including frozen veggies, contain sodium.
The experts claim they have no idea why Americans are obese. Just read the labels and any one can figure it out.
Natural foods quickly spoil: with today's modern fleets, there is no need for all the junk in food.
There is never a reason to add salt. People can add their own.

I agree!
Unfortunately a corporations bottom line is more important than the health of the general public. And when you do find the "organic" healthier stuff....who can afford it. I live on a very tight budget. I so buy stuff like that when I can, but it doesn't always fit into my budget.

That's why I work from home, although my work isn't well paid. It gives me the time I need to shop for and prepare healthy, non-processed foods from scratch and feed my household on the best I can afford.

If it comes in a brightly coloured polythene bag with big letters on the front--it isn't real food.

I have to agree with you, way too much processing is going on in the name of shelf life. I simply purchase from the outer aisles, produce, meats dairy and such. Learned to make pasta, learned to make my own canned goods, so I know what is in them. I do not buy from the inner aisles anymore.
