wouldn't it be to our benefit, as atheists, to allow the discussion of intelligent design to at least be brought up in public schools? i'm not saying it should be taught as an equally supported scientific theory, but more as a hypothesis. i believe the more it is brought up in public schools, and the more it is discussed, the more people will realize it's impossible to scientifically support and thus shouldn't be labeled a scientific theory, as people are trying to convince students. we know it's bogus. why not allow it to be subjected to the same scrutiny as every other hypothesis in science that became theory and see if it can stand up to the same rigorous testing?

I think this is the compromise lots of people are coming to, albeit reluctantly. Teach both, pointing out how some people believe one and the others believe the other. I think most kids are smart enough to know science from religious allegory.

Well, there's no harm, really, and it might get the students to think. Or at least touch off some interesting classroom discussions.
