You should look into joining Weight Watchers. Its a really great program and they will tell you what you can and cannot eat. Plus you get weighed in every week so you know you're making progress. I don't really know about the gym though, just keep going and trying different machines out. Good luck.

The following is a great way to not only lose weight but to be a more health person.
· Healthy diet. It is important to maintain a good diet so you don't compromise your health. Damage done because of lack of nutrition is not worth a nice body. Some diet damage cannot be fixed. When you deprive your brain, the brain will take other body cells to convert to the elements that it needs. And the cells it takes are BRAIN cells. OOPS. I don't want to loose brain cells to have thin legs. But I would like to have both.
Also, a quick weight loss is usually a water loss and that loss will come back ASAP. You cannot loose FAT more than 2 to 3 pounds a week. Any more than that and you are loosing water and muscle mass (not good)
AND DON'T GO ON A DIET. DECIDE TO MAKE A LIFE CHANGE TO A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE.
1) fruits and veggies, all you want, organic, raw, vine-ripe if possible. Steamed is OK,sauteed is OK even canned or frozen is OK, but lots of them.
2) limited or no meat.
3) nothing fried
4) no FAST FOOD- is junk, no nutrition, empty calories
5) NO PROCESSED FOOD. if you can't pronounce it don't eat it.
6) nothing white, salt, sugar, mayo, milk, (or at least in moderation.
7) NO DAIRY-dairy is great for baby cows, your body does not even digest it properly. check out www.notmilk.com
8) EXERCISE- and be sure to refresh your body with water and fresh fruit
9) NO PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS. Muscle is made from water, replace the water. You get enough protein from the food you eat, You get more protein from spinach than the supplements you take and your body does not get toxic on food protein the way it will with artificial supplements. Supplements can really tax you liver.
10) Good supplements would be Omega 3, and B-12 and Juice Plus+(a whole food supplement)

11) NO CARBONATED DRINKS, or at least limited. They actually dissolve the calcium in your bones.
12) Calories in calories out.
AND DON'T GO NUTS, MODERATION.
And the spell check would not work, so if I messed up please forgive.

Cardio workouts, with a healthy balanced diet. Get your heart pumping for at least 30 minutes, every single day. I would suggest jogging, because it seems to work the best for fat burning. East less than 2000 calories, but more than 1500 every day, and you will lose weight. I'm not sure if you will lose all 60, but this way works and is a very healthy lifestyle.
Good luck

Buy a Polar heart monitor watch that calculates calories burned. Wear it for 24 hours on a normal, non-workout day so you get a baseline calorie burning rate per day.
Keep track of what you eat, and learn what foods have what calories by visiting www.calorieking.com - if you want to splurge a few dollars - join the site and use their software to keep track of what you eat meticulously.
Eat fewer calories than you burn every day - period. That is a must. No matter what you eat, make sure it contains fewer calories than you burn in a day.
Eat right. There is no magic bullet. Stop eating candy, sugary snacks, salty snacks, and any food that doesn't grow out of the earth or that was not once part of an animal. I'd suggest steering clear of red meat, and sticking with chicken and fish.
Stay away from fatty foods too. Read labels and learn what is in everything that you eat. If it has ingredients you can't pronounce or that are not natural, eat something else.
Try to eat 6 approximately equal sized meals per day - each of about 300 calories each. That will most likely be below your 24 hour calorie burn rate. Drink a gallon of water per day.
Exercise every day, even if it is just walking on the treadmill. Wear your polar heart monitor watch and try to work up a sweat and spike your heart rate while doing cardio (treadmill, bike, stairmaster, eliptical, aerobics classes, whatever). Set a goal for calories to burn exercising every day - 500 is usually a doable number.
Remember this rule of thumb: to burn 1 pound of fat, you need burn 3500 calories more than you take in. That's a lot. It's hard work, but once you get to eating right and exercising regularly, you will start shedding it like crazy.
Exercise 6 days per week, and take 1 day off to rest.
I usually say to make sure you're 80% good with your diet and exercise, but 60 pounds is a lot by April, and you did say you would do ANYTHING.
If you mean that, then sit down at your desk and review what I've just written. Take our your Polar heart rate monitor and read the instructions and set it up. It will tell you a lot. Study different foods on calorieking.com and read your labels. Throw away food that has lots of sugar, salts, fats, etc. Throw away all snacks immediately. Do not drink any liquid that has calories. Find a farmer's market or fruit/vegetable market and fill the fridge with veggies. Buy liquid egg whites for convenience (they are pure protein - perfect food). Do not use dressings or sauces or dips (they are LOADED with calories usually).
You have 21 weeks..... 60 pounds means you have lose 3 pounds per week. That is a tremendously fast, but possible, rate to lose fat. But you have to work out like a maniac, burning 500-1000 calories per day in your workouts, and you have to eat meticulously clean - whole foods - no processed crap -- no going to restaurants.
That's what it's going to take. But you can do it.
Focus. Write down your plan. Keep a diary at the end of each day, and write down your successes and failures. Write down how it makes you feel. You'll learn that when you eat right and exercise, you will feel great. When you don't, you will not feel great. Do the things that make you feel great.
Keep a picture of your loved one with you at all times, and when you feel yourself faltering, tell yourself that you are doing this for him and buckle down.
Good luck to you. And thank you to you and your husband for his service and both of your sacrifices.
