since most of the founding fathers, and the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence..were deists.

No, they were all against a national religion. That's the reason they founded this country; they wanted to separate religion from the government so that people could worship and believe according to what was best for them personally.

No I would not. I wouldn't do it with Christianity either. State religions never end well. Freedom of religion is what we need (BTW that's not freedom FROM religion....), and that was the goal the Founding Fathers had in mind. A country where people could practice their religion freely (unless, of course, it involves something like human sacrifices...that shouldn't be allowed 'cause it's murder) and not have to worry about being burned at the stake. That's why the Puritans came here in the first place and I think we should continue on in that tradition.

But you're right, those men were largely Deists and Masons, not Christians. People forget that!

Wrong.

Most of the founders were not Deists, but were in fact Congregationalists (the modern day Church of Christ). A good chunk were, but the vast majority were praticing Christians.

i would fight to prevent the establishment of ANY national religion, even if it were my own
