Was there such a thing as animal rights and animal warfare activists during the Old Testament?

If so, how did they react to the massacre of "perfect and pure animals" as a sacrafice to God?

Animals were killed cutting the jugular. They would bleed to death quickly, and people prayed in thanks for the animal/ sacrifice. In comparison to some practices today it is very humane.
