I live in Ohio. Whenever the weather starts to change from fall to winter, the skin on my face goes all wacky. It gets really dry. Especailly around my nose, and between my eye brows, to the point of almost welting. Whenever I wash my face with or without soap it gets red bloches all over my face and neck. I tried getting the Aveeno calming lotion, but it doesn't help. Is there any moisturizer out there that can help? It's only like this in the cold weather. In spring, summer, and fall, it is still slightly dry, but nothing like this.
Also, it's only my face. The rest of the skin on my body is normal.

go to walmarts pharmacy section, and on one of the shelves you'll find hydrocortisone cream. ask them for help if you can't find it. i swear by this stuff because i have eczema and it's the only thing that has worked for me. if you apply it everyday after you wash your face, or shower...guarantee those problem spots will be gone. and it's a really lightweight cream that doesn't leave a greasy residue. i love it and won't use anything else. another bonus is that it's cheap! :D good luck!

Instead of using a lotion try a moisturizer in a cream formula instead. It has more moisture and is thicker. Ponds has a cream that's called the classic dry cream which helps with really dry skin. Also washing your face with soap dries out the skin even more. Find a cleanser that is more calming and hydrating.

Hi, I have dry skin, too but not welts. You should exfoliate twice a week with some plain old cornmeal. if you don't take off the dead skin, the moisturizer will not be able to penetrate. I have dry sensitive skin so I use Cetaphil AM and PM. It comes in a white jar with a green label. It's like $12 at Wal-Mart but it lasts a long time. Just put on a whole bunch, leave it for 10 min or so, then wipe off excess with a tissue paper.

soothe dry skin with an all natural skin care moisturizer. this can help keep the skin moist all day. stay away from factors that can rob moisture out of the body like dry air, too much exposure to the sun and humidity.
there are also natural ways to beat dry skin by avoiding long baths and showers. talk to your skin care expert and get some recommended skin care treatments.
also, take note that healthy habits and healthy lifestyle can contribute to make the skin look good and healthy. try to quit smoking and alcohol drinking.

Winter weather means more time indoors with the heat on and that means lower humidity and often dry skin. Key suggestions is to make sure you stay hydrated since dry skin isn't the lack of oil it's the lack of water in your skin. Use moisturizer while the skin is wet to help lock in the moisture.
Check out this site for lots more info. They have a section on seasonal dry skin.

Find some kukui nut oil (it's from Hawaii, Oils of Aloha makes a good one that should be at Whole Foods). This is excellent for very dry skin. Alternatives would be apricot kernel or avocado oil, or rosa mosqueta oil by Aubrey Organics. Also, you should sleep with a humidifier so that your skin stays hydrated in the evening. All those will help.

Consulting with a dermatologist might be the right way to go. He can analyze your skin need and problems and can prescribe the correct skin regimen. There are skin problems that may need more than the over-the-counter treatment. .

Try Eucerin extremely dry skin treatment cream and take a vitamin A supplement.
NeoStrata can also be prescribed by your Dr if that doesn't work

Vaseline petroleum jelly. It will lock in the moisture so you skin can heal. It's cheap and it is the only thing that works for me.
