My cat(s) keep tearing up the role of toilet paper at night (or probably when ever) when I put it on the roller in the bathroom. Their litter box is in the bathroom so I can not lock them out. Is there some kind if scent that they do not like or something that I can do to prevent this?

I am talking about the paper that is actually on the role holder by the toilet, so she/he/they get on the toilet and then unroll it and claw it to pieces. Come to think of it they do it with the paper towel roll too if it is accessible.

I just want to keep the TP on the roll holder and keep them away from it. Any suggestions on that?

They have plenty of toys.

I just had a wastebasket near the toilet and I put the TP in that (not with anything else). The cats wouldn't bother it there.

Take a roll that is almost empty and put tape around the ends so the cats can play with it, you can do that with the paper towels too.

Turn the roll around so it hangs the other way. That way when they try to paw it it just rolls tighter.

That, or put it in a zip lock baggie and keep it there rather than on the holder.

Make sure the roll is on the side where the paper does not roll down the floor. Usually cat gets tired of just seeing the roll "roll" without dropping. It's simple but it worked for my cats.

Put the rolls higher up.

But, I think she'll probably outgrow that stage. My cats always do.

Or you could buy them some sort of alternative toy to play with and tear up. We have a sort of jingly mouse on a string that we attach to a door handle. Our kitten goes wild over it.

Good luck!

They just want something to play with, put it where they can't reach it and give them something else to play with. You can probably put the TP back later.
