The only difference that someone not 18 should change is the pace of physical training. Beyond that the service that you may choose will teach you everything that you need to know. However you should know what you are getting into. Not to sound stupid or anything, but do realize there are multiple campaigns going on at this time. You probably will be deployed. Also females have a different experience than males, so I suggest talking to A) a Female recruiter or B) a Female Veteran

Joining at 33 is different from joining at 18. If you are in good enough physical condition to handle it your age can actually be an advantage. The most challenging thing for someone to come in a little older is that you will have to take orders from a lot of people who are younger than you. If you can handle that and don't think you will have a negative attitude about it then I say go for it. We can use all the help we can get. I would also second the recommendation to talk to a female who has served to get a woman's perspective if that would make you feel more comfortable.

I went thru AIT with a 33 year old banker escaping his past. This guy abused himself with alcohol for many years. Once he cleaned up he decided to change his life more and enlisted. Considering that and his age guess what???? He survived and so will you.
There were 2 guy's in Basic that were in their late 20's and 1 over 30 (not sure how far). None of them had trouble keeping up with us kids. They suffered a bit more at night but also survived.

Given your age and teh physical demands of basic training, as another answerer alluded to, you may want to check out the Air Force. This isn't a slam on them (I've been in 17 years and have heard all the jokes from my Army pals) but a more realistic and satisfying option for you if service to your country has become something of a calling for you. I believe the cutoff is 35 (never had to ask, so I may be wrong) but at least talk to a recruiter and see what they can offer you.

I don't know what country you live in but I have been told by people who have been in the army in the U.S. that the age limit for joining the military for the first time and not reuping is 25 years old
