Best seller? Ok, it is odd that the New York Times lists it as a best seller but the bible can't even get into the top 100 on Amazon. That is probably because Amazon is basing their rating on actual sales. There are more books critical of the bible in the Amazon top 100.
You are talking about religious people forcing people to follow their religion and trying to make that proof that religion is right. That is messed up thinking. By your reasoning, the inquisition was a perfectly good thing.

It's *not.*
That's a bogus statistic that combines ALL editions, translations, and bulk buyers like the Gideons to produce an inflated total.
It's like combining all versions of the dictionary to claim best seller status for a particular dictionary.
Harry Potter probably sells more *actual* copies, and people READ those . . . unlike most Buybulls sold. And, FYI, people don't swear on Buybulls in court, and the "In God We Trust" is a *very* late addition to our money.
Get a life.

The Bible is the best seller because, simply, it's the Truth. The atheist can deny it, other "religions" can mock it, but none of that matters. The Truth is the Truth. The fact that more Americans don't buy it is sad. It just shows how twisted and backwards this country has become. This country was built on Christianity, it's laws were based on Christianity. I think, if you can't deal with that, go live somewhere else. There are places where it is against the law to be Christian.
PS. There are more Christians in China ( where it is against the law ) than there is in America.

Have you ever read the bible? You do realize the Jews wandered the desert murdering everyone they came across for forty years. Also Christianity takes bits and pieces from other religions an incorporates it into itself that is why we have Christmas trees and Easter eggs.

One word: Marketing.
Odd, you almost make it sound like you base your beliefs on what is most profitable.
Also, by your criterion for what make the Bible so great, Eagles: Their Greatest Hits, 1971–1975 is the best music of all time for everybody, followed closely by Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Amen. But some answers will be funny because suddenly the ones that don't believe will say that everyone else is stupid and brainwashed. Yet the Bible stays on the best seller list. Go figure.

Pearl,
Yes the Bible is still the best seller in the countries that use the Christian religion and where they are printed in their language. The Bible is still authoritive and it still gives the best answer to our 3 questions.Where did we come from? Why are we here?where are we going? Good for you.I have studied the Bible for 60 years and I can read it in 3 languages. Those that revile the Bible know very little about it and do not want to believe in God.

It's because it is the ONLY written inspired word of God - no other so-called 'holy book' is! It is God's written word by which our country's laws were founded upon. The bible is also the ONLY word by which I stand - I agree with you on that totally - may God bless.
