Thirty years ago my dad cursed God. He looked up to the sky and said " F- you God, I hate you!" He usually would never ever do that but after a ton of bad things happened in his life, he couldn't take it and blew up. And then lost his faith. I always thought God was punishing him for that b/c of the things that keep happening in their life. We call it the family curse. Does God do that?

God understands when we say things in despair and anger. He will forgive all that. Did your dad ask for forgiveness? If not, perhaps God was showing him that things could be even worse than before. I can't presume to know the mind of God.

But, I do know that God punishes those He loves. (whom God loves, He chastises). If we are not punished for doing wrong, we are not a child of God.

The Bible says that the earth right now is Satan's domain, and since Adam & Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, there has been all manner of sorrow and natural, disasters in the world. I do not believe that God is punishing him, but I pray he someday finds the love I have from God. I could say there is a curse on my family for various personal reasons, but guess what, we are all professed Christians. I believe when we experience problems on earth, a lot of them are just because of cause and effect, people who make problems for others, and even Satan can be the cause. The Bible says he comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came so we could have life. To close I do think God has the power and ability to punish people, but usual I would think He simply lifts his hand of natural protection and allows Satan, who is the father of all who denounce Jesus, to wreak havoc in peoples life. Ultimately I think God works predominately with love, and I think our job as Christians are to show that unconditional love to your father and those like him, so people can see that there IS more to our existence then pain, sorry and death.

Many people make an erroneous assumuption that God angrily intervenes to punish us whenever we step out of line, when in reality He generally allows us to suffer the consequences of our own selfish, shortsighted behavior (see Jeremiah 2:19; 10:23). Most people fail to recognize that God doesn't have to directly intervene every time we sin; the spiritual laws He set in motion are self- enforcing, bringing their own punishment when we break them. Not all suffering is the result of personal disobedience or irresponsible behavior by the one who suffers. Even in the Ten Commandments God reminds us that the consequences of wrong actions can affect ones descendants for several generations (Exodus 20:5).

Things don't just happen to people. If you believe God is against you, or that the world is against you, and that's the face you show the world, guess what happens? You have "bad luck." God does not punish us in the physical life. We make our own life and our own "luck" and our outlook and attitude goes a long way in making certain things happen. Your father is 100% to blame for whatever state his life is in and anything that happens to him. Blaming God and claiming there's a curse is foolish and closedminded and shows no understanding of spirituality. Your father has to forgive himself, and pick himself up by the **** and make it a point to make his life better instead of waiting for someone else, even God, to suddenly change everything. Then when he recognizes that his failings are not God's fault, he can ask God for forigiveness.

If God is all forgiving he doesn't punish. However, believing there is no God leads to an emptiness which may feel like a punishment of sorts.

If your father knew Jesus and had faith in him he is still saved. But yes God can punish people who turn their back on him even those whose lose faith. Once in Gods hands, no one or thing can take you away.
As far as the family curse, God doesn't hold us Children of our parents accountable for the sins our parents did.

One can not be "cursed" by a mythological figure. He might as well have attacked Zeus...

As he is not living in a small village in Taiwan, he is doing considerably better than most people on the planet. Not much of a curse.

God is certainly able to do that, but from our perspective, it is not always clear what God is or is not doing.
