Aside from being bastions of ignorance, megaliths of pseudochristianity, and the tools of Satan, they're fine.

It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks about such things. If it has a positive affect on the lives of the individuals who choose to attend, then why is it so threatening to those who choose not to attend? Why do so many feel the need to be so negative and vicious toward those with whom we disagree? Is tolerance and civility that distant of a memory?
Also many of the mega churches meet for corporate (community) worship in the large churches but break into what are called small groups for fellowship during the week, Bible study, support and accountability in their Christian life walk.

First, what do you mean by megachurches?
I mean churches like Second Baptist in Houston, Texas, which is HUGE and has several 'campuses.'
When the nave of a church is essentially the size of a symphony concert hall, I think that's wrong.
I prefer smaller, homier churches, where the pastor knows just about everyone by name or at least recognizes them when he sees them. I prefer to worship God in a church, not in an auditorium.
On the other hand, some people like the huge churches, so I see no reason to destroy them just because I don't care for them.

People have the freedom to congregate how they wish but I am against any State or Federal money granted to them. This is a huge problem in most southern states. If they take government then they should have to lend-out the building for other, secular shows. Like a Marilyn Manson concert if so desired.

To me it seems like you'd be going to a concert/special event every weekend. I get a lot more out of going to a smaller church of around 300 where you can thrive spiritually, not be lost in a crowd. I don't have much experience w/ large congregations let alone mega churches... perhaps that is what some people need??

Good question.
They certainly shouldn't be destroyed, but as a product of our society who is tired of religious dogma, they make a nice substitution.
They also strongly stress the importance of joining a small group to ‘stay connected’. In this way, the members can get that feel of security in a small group of like minded individuals. I was kicked out of my small group for asking too many penetrating questions into the others beliefs.
I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone’s faith, at the time my faith was struggling and I needed to get my worries out into the open. It fell on unsympathetic ears and I was asked to not return.

It would be easy for someone to get "lost in the crowd" so to speak in a megachurch, it would be easier to not be held accountable for your actions in such a big crowd. Besides part of belonging to a church is to fellowship with others.

Megachurches are the marriage of business and Bible. They are unequally yoked. They detract from intimate relationships with God and fellow believers. They are monuments to man, not God.

I don't feel comfortable going to them. It's like an arena setting, and people get lost in the crowds. I like small churches better. Places where everybody knows your name.

They somehow strike me as having a misleading motive to gather money for the ones running them....................I would hope that is not the case.............Jesus seemed to use the modest methods. and I suppose they feel they are better? They sport a lavish life style as if they are celebrities and I really do not think that is the style of Jesus while he was on earth.....They are living on a lot of poor peoples money and taking cruises and vacations that have nothing to do with Jesus.

All megachurches are are means for 'christians' to appeal to the public using money and expansion over Christ and his teachings.
Any church I will attend will be small, or very dedicated to the word and teachings over money and society.
