Yes. I know the Bible doesn't state this, but Mary would have been stoned to death by her parents if she had became pregnant when unwed. Joseph wouldn't have stepped up to the plate to wed someone who was not a virgin. Let's be logical here, given the era and their customs.

No, they were engaged. Joesph was going to cast Mary away when he found out she was with child but Gods Angel spoke to him and told him it was in Gods plan.

No, they were engaged. The angel of the Lord appeared and told her she was chosen to be his earthly mother. Then the angel appeared to Joseph and told him to go ahead and marry her but not to sleep with her until after she gave birth and that she hadn't slept with another man.

Sorry I just came back on read Luke 1-3.

They were arranged to be married and were during the process of time prior to their coming together as a married couple. Under Jewish tradition, they were considered to be married and if Joseph had "put her away" it would have amounted to an actual divorce even though they had not come together as a married couple yet.

Hope that helps.

Betrothed but not wed. Betrothal is a stronger legal contract than engagement but similar.

No. but God sent an angel to Joseph to reassure him- in that time, mary would have been stoned. This was the will of God that His will would be fulfilled.

They were betrothed. In Jewish custom, this means married in all ways EXCEPT those that lead to children
