I just thought I'd make a note on a previous post. How often your dog requires a rabies shot is dependent on the state. I live in Oklahoma and it is required EVERY YEAR. I also now Texas requires it annually. I think border states (especially with Mexico where many dogs go unvaccinated) or states where wild animals have high prevalence require it annually.

Also I have heard that a 5 in 1 shot is more effective than the 7 in 1 shots. But I don't know if this is true or not. Also if you live in the Eastern half of the US especially in northern areas, your dog should get the Lyme Disease vaccine.

Dogs should NEVER get a 7 in 1 vaccination!! This is way too much vaccine and NOT recommended.

Puppies get a series of 3 starting at 8 weeks old, 12 weeks and then 16 weeks and then a rabies at 20 weeks or older. After that they get a booster in one year...once that has been done they don't need any more vaccinations for 3 years.

I suggest going to Dr Dodds & Dr Schultz sites and learning more about vaccinations. Also get a copy of the Nov 2006 Whole Dog Journal. It has a wonderful article on vaccinating.
