To paraphrase Mugatu "Is everyone here taking crazy pills?"
Swimming or yoga to build a BIGGER back?! Butterflyes and bench presses build the chest and triceps primarily as well as the front delt. "Eat you greens" Walking or running?! Why do you people bother to type these answers? Oh yeah, to get two points.
(surf the web was funny and obviously just a joke)

To pack muscle on your back you should do deadlifts, bent over rows, one arm rows, and heavy pull downs as the core of your training.
Go for military presses, upright rows and lateral raises to build the shoulders.
Good luck and train hard!!

I agree with other posters that swimming would be good for both your back and shoulders...but if you can't swim well (or at all) the next best thing would be pull-ups - do them with a variety of grip widths both overhand & underhand

up the weight on your shoulder exercises, you should really struggle to do the last 2-3 reps, so use enough weight that you can only do 8-10 reps per set

The most effective method is to do excercises that use large muscle groups. Focus on doing 3 to 5 sets containing 6 to 10 reps each. You should be close to failure on the last set and if you find that you are able to do greater than 12 reps then you are not lifting heavy enough. Remember to to switch up your lifting routine about every 4 to 6 weeks as muscles adapt quickly and you want to avoid hitting a platue. As for the best exercises. I can't believe how few people have provided the correct answer to this question.

The best way to achieve a bigger back is sets of overhand, wide grip pull ups and a high protein diet. Try doing 20 in as many sets as it takes.

Not swimming. Swimming will just give you a toned back, not a bigger one.

pull ups and chins and of course you have to stretch the muscles of the back sufficiently to optimize growth potential. swimming does not offer progressive resistance and the body will adapt to the load being placed on the muscles after time. with pull ups and chins after you can do plenty of reps with the body weight all you have to so is put a dumbbell between your ankles with your feet crossed.

Walking is the best exercise. Everyone has different body types, sometimes you have to accept what you have and make the best of it. Enya<3
