My dog is about 3 to 4 years old a chihuahua mix and she came in from using the restroom outside limping. She had her back right leg up and her paw was clenched like if there was something in there. She was still very excited and wimpering to us. Me, my mom and my boyfriend felt her whole leg and pad, we can strech out her leg and everything and she even was laying on her leg that was hurt so everything seems to be fine and we can't figure out whats wrong with it. I'm thinkin maybe she pulled a muscle or somethin. Please give me some advice. Do i need to take her to the vet or just keep her off the leg?

Her leg isn't swollen and there are no signs that she's been bitten. She even was laying down on the leg. Does she just want to be babied cuz she's following me around everywhere even though she's "hurt"

My big dog was running and all of a sudden fell down. Doc said she apparently sprained her leg. That was about a month ago and she still limps on it but it is better. I have pain pills for her if she seems to be hurting too badly.

I would give her a little time and see what she is like. If you can manipulate the leg with no pain it's unlikely to be skeletal. Have you checked in between the pads to see if anything is lodged right in between them, like a bur? She may even have something small digging into a pad, like a little thorn. If you exclude all these and she is still limping or not using the leg, then it is probably soft tissue injury, but to confirm you would need to take her to the vet. It is very easy for a dog to pull a muscle, strain a ligament etc. Good luck. You sound like very caring owners.

I don't know about her wanting to be babied. She was probably wanting to get your attention because somthing is wrong. It doesn't seem bad, maybe she pulled a ligament, or stretched a muscle. Whatever it was, it seems minor. I suggest that you keep an eye on her over the next few days. If you notice her getting better, then don't worry about it. If she's getting worse or staying the same, then you should probably take her in. I hope it helps and good luck!
P.S. You might want to give her some extra treats, just in case ; )

Smaller dogs suffer from a problem where the tendons in their rear legs pop in and out of a groove made in the bone and it causeses them some pain and discomfort. Most doctors will tell you that a surgical procedure where the groove is made deeper will fix the problem but the surgery is expenseive.
I'm sure a vet can explain it better but my small dog had the same problem and still does.

Lyme's - Same thing with my dog. She was limping, couldn't find anything, that's when I noticed that her one rear foot was bigger that the other. She must have been favouring the stronger foot for a while. I felt so bad and took her to the vet right away and they did a blood test.

Sounds like she may have a luxating patella. My dog has low grade luxating patellas, and the vet told me to bring her back once she starts lifting her back leg and "hopping" (as it sounds like your dog is doing). She said that this would indicate pain, so I recommend you take her to the vet. She may or may not need surgery if she does in fact have a luxating patella.

We live out in the country and our little dog will get a splinter from time to time. Check between it's toes. It could be real small, but cause them a lot of discomfort.

Could be an ACL tear. You need to get it checked by a vet.
