I had a similar pain in my cheek for two years. First of all, make sure your bite is good and are not loading on one or more teeth. I would ask for an anticonvulsant type of medication. This is the most common medication prescribed for longterm facial nerve pain. It was the only medication that helped me. Some antibiotics also have inflammatory properties and you could try that first or at the same time.

Believe it or not, when I had really bad dental pain, after a root canal, for about a month, antibiotics helped the pain tremendously.

You need to find a new doctor. And another. Never accept the findings of a doctor who has just given up. Ask for a referral to a specialist. Go to the American Dental Association and ask for their help. Get a new dr.

Neurontin helps tremendously with my chronic headaches (it blocks the pain signals from getting to the brain).

Almost everything else (pain-killer) is addictive.

You might want to try an anti-depressant like cymbalta. Cymbalta not only handles depressive-type symptoms (anyone who experiences this much pain chronically is depressed) but it also helps pain.

Find another doctor, go see an acupuncturist (they handle pain very successfully), or maybe consult a chinese herbalist.

I like orajel, otherwise take tylenol and ibeprophen.. alternate them.. that should help the pain immensly.. Just don't take the tylenol and ibeprophen for days on end.. Its really bad for your stomach.
