I love my Maine Coon Tortoiseshell and white cat. The only problem is she can get a bit annoying. She's the friendliest cat I have ever met, and she loves to greet you and lick you. The only problem is when I am on my computer, she loves to sit in front of the keyboard and mouse so I can't work. Is she doing this just to annoy me? I ask because when I pick her up and hold her in bed, she purrs and purrs but only stays a couple minutes. She will sit in front of my keyboard all day long. I pick her up and put her down, but she jumps right back up. I have put her down like 50 times in a row before, but she still kept jumping back up. What can I do to stop this annoying behavior?

Thats sweet. I have a cat that follows you around meowing, paws the air whilst meowing at you and if you are just standing there she will jump up into your arms. When you pick her up she will put her paws either side of your neck like she is hugging you and hide her face in your hair. Sometimes she will follow you all day meowing for attention it drives me nuts! Her name is Cleo, Clingy Cleo! If my cats get in my way whilst at the computer I put them down click my fingers point away from me whilst saying no or git. You'll have to be firm with her she knows you are distracted by the computer and wants some attention herself. Most of my cats follow me to the toilet and if I leave the door open will come in and try to get on my lap! All they see is me sitting down doing nothing!

If you love her, learn to compute one-handed. She's probably fascinated by the motion of the cursor or other movements on screen, but might be equally fascinated by some good toys. One solution is to have a nice basket of throwable toys handy (20 or so); if you wear her out playing with toys, she might nap for a while & then you can do your thing. Another thought is to put some citrus smelling spray or scented oil around the pc - they don't like lime smells usually, so that might discourage her. Her affection is one of the great things about Maine Coon cats, and she's not going to change in that regard. But the bottom line is, If you can't give her the attention she craves, give her to someone who can. Elderly shut-ins have lots of time & attention to give, and if you have someone in your neighborhood like that, they are likely to let you visit.

Your cat is just being friendly. My cat does that too but when I put her down it bites. So I always put on cartoons for it because it gets lonely. When u buy milk take the little part of and throw it on the floor....It keeps the cat distracted while you play or buy a toy mouse that uses a remote and let your cat chase it around the house when your working. My cat loves to type.

Play with her more. She just wants to be near you. My cat used to sit right in front of my monitor lol.
Do about 10 minutes of interactive play with a pole type toy, give a few treats to reward her hunting skills, and then she should sleep.
EDIT: This worked for me. My cats are so tired after the play, because I run them hard, they are ready for a long sleep. There should be at least 1 10-minute play session daily regardless. The cat just wants attention. This is the best way to give it.

I have to deal with this with one of my kitties.
You'll have to keep putting her down when you don't want her in your lap. But if she's stubborn, you might even have to close her out of the room while you're trying to work on the computer. She won't be happy about it, but she'll eventually get the idea.
I would guess that your cat simply wants a lot of attention.

My cat does the same thing every time my roommate tries to do her homework. I think they like to watch the screen and also they like to know what is going on at all times. The only thing that you can do is to put her in a different room while you do your work. Good luck!

Because it hurts! Would you like someone to squeeze your butt? Think about it. That's terrible that your friend does that! He shouldn't even have a cat if he is going to do that, and it is most certainly NOT funny!!!
