I'm 6,000 miles away from my family and just recieved an email from my father. My younger brother has been diagnosed with breast cancer and stomach cancer. I am the only one in my family who has any belief in God, but they've asked me to pray. I will do so, I pray for so many different people, I guess this one has hit close to home and I don't want to be alone in my prayers.

"Illegal infers breaking the law as set forth by a legislative judical body.
Second, to satisfy that accusation, Y/A is now supposed to screen for questions that are "disguises"?
Second, as this is the first response to be posted to a question regarding a dying family member, I would say the response is closer to a violation of "treat others with respect and dignity" than the accusation of having a hidden agenda for posting.
Pity we've sunk to a point where some believe Yahoo should now define illegal activites to no longer be limited to advocating violence on others, sexually soliciting minors, but should now include posting "disguised" prayer requests.

It must be very hard for you that your family is facing this hardship without the peace, joy and love that God has to offer them. God doesn't promise to take our trials away, but walk through them with us so we don't have to be alone. My prayer for your brother is that he will be fully healed from his afflictiion, be strong, grow in faith and have the courage to follow through with his treatment which can be uncomfortable. I also pray for the rest of the family that they my come to know their Father that created them. The giver of life and health. Don't think in terms of death, but, of life. So often people go through their busy lives without a thought for God or following health laws until something goes wrong..then they either blame God, or fortunately, like your family, turn to Him for help. I pray that no matter the outcome all that are touched with this heartache will be made strong in Christ.
Let me share something with you that I got from the Chaplain at the VA Hospital in Fresno CA. You may want to share it. I hope you don't mind as I had it on another answer.
A Paradox
Be not concerned about how long you live,
But, how well you live.
There is neither a good time nor a bad time to die,
There is only your time.
Of life, of death, there is no control;
There is neither yesterday nor tomorrow..
There is only NOW.
NOW is all there is and if you live well,
Now is enough.
The one most ready to die
Is the one most willing to live.
"There is a right time for everything, and a right time for every event under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die...a time to weep and a time to laugh...there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy life as long as we live."
--from Ecclesiastes 3

You are not alone and neither is he. I am praying for you and the family.
Father God, Bend an ear this way and hear your child. I lift this whole family up to you, Lord. Give them Peace and strength like only you can. Guide the doctors and lead them in their care of him. God bless this family Lord. You can do anything and You said that, if any two of us, should ask in the name of Jesus, IT MUST BE. There are way more than two of us asking Lord.
Now I take this moment to say thank you for the marvelous miracles that you can and will do. You are the most loving Father anyone has ever known. We praise you and Love you and KNOW that you can do this miracle.
In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Gunslinger, There is a prayer you can pray right from Gods Word. This is the prayer I am praying for you and your family.
Ephesians 1:15-23 15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

First of all, I must ask: have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and asked Him to forgive you of your sins? If so congratulations, that's wonderful news! If not, I pray that you will consider giving your life to Him, and commit to His way and will in all things. Because this is the only way that Your prayers will be heard by the Father, since Jesus is our intercessor. If you feel your life is empty, you need to draw closer to God through Jesus. No one else can complete us. I'm sad to hear of this issue with you losing your son and your ex for that matter. But sometimes God allows things to happen in our lives, in order to show us that we need Him. If you begin to place all your trust in the Lord, then He will give you direction for your life. You have to let Your ex go, and put God first. I'll pray that His will, not yours or mine, be done. Don't worry, God makes no mistakes! He loves you and wants only what is best (His best) for You.

Any words you lift up to God in prayer for your brother and family are acceptable to Him. God knows your heart. And He hears every prayer no matter how small. But consider this. The mere fact that they have asked you to pray shows they have some faith in what you believe, as small as that faith might be. That's the seed that can be cultivated into a relationship with God. You are not alone in your prayers or your needs. Your prayer family is here to pray with you and to love you. I pray that God will show his awesome power, love and mercy to your brother and your family, and that He will bring them out of the darkness of not knowing Him. His will be done. You are NOT alone in your prayers! I want you to know that I am praying for your brother and his diagnosis. That if he does not know the Lord, he will reach out to Him and take His hand. I pray your family will open their eyes to the fact that God is GOD and their creator. I pray for you, that God might use your example to continue to draw them closer to the Lord God! May the Lord bless you and may He walk with your brother through the battle ahead! May God's will be done in this entire situation...I humbly place you all, at the feet of the Lord!
God Bless You,
Gail....e-mail if you ever need to talk.

How would I pray?
Well, I would put the salvation, deliverance and healing of your entire family in the hands of the Lord and ask that God give you the wisdom to reach out to them with perfect timing and ask that God give you an open door of utterance to reach your entire family in a Spirit of Love and Comfort during this difficult trial.
My prayers are with you and your entire family.
In Jesus name.
Your sister in Christ,
Becky
