We don't have fenced yard and live in a town where there are no ordinances on how many cat's a person can have. They run free and also poop freely in our yard and extended acreage around our house.

We have a corresponding field past our back yard, and cats love to poop in the mole dirt mounds. It is also an area we prefer our dogs (one 7 year old black lab and small 5 month old dachshund) to do their duty.

However, I'm noticing more and more that our puppy like to eat the cat poop and rarely eats any of her food in the house (besides small scrapes from the table).

I can't keep my eye on her full time while she is outside. But I'm wondering if there is some way or product that will deter her from eating more poop, and possibly getting really sick.

Thank you for all your help. I'd had to lose her (she's the ONLY other female in this house!!)

We live in city limits and can't shoot the darn cats.

About the only thing you can do is take her out on a leash and pull her back when she tries to eat it. Even if you fence your yard, the cats can still come in your yard and poop.

Dogs love cat poop because cats don't fully digest their food - There is still a lot of good stuff in the poop, which is why dogs love it.

I've read so many times that poop eaters have a vitamin deficiency or their diet is lacking. I tend to disagree with that, I have a poop eater extraordinaire whose diet is more than adequate, she will eat any poop available. I've tried enzyme supplements (don't work). What does work, and it's taken time, is to correct her every time she picks up a tasty treat. Now she'll look up at me before she eats it, I'll tell her drop it and she will. Sorry, I don't have an easy answer for you

There is something you can buy at pet stores that you put on the dog's food that makes the poop taste really bad and then they won't eat it. I don't remember what it is called but if you ask at your local pet store like Petsmart or PetCo they should be able to help you. There is also stuff you can spray in your yard that keeps the cats from using it for their bathroom purposes. It is also sold in pet stores.

Good luck, we had a lab that loved eating any poop she could find. The vet told me it was a vitamin deficiency. We couldn't figure out what she was missing in her diet, since she was only eating dry dog food. Good luck!

Talk to your vet. I am sure there is an ordiance somewhere about cats...all cities and small toens have them as the large impact on rabies is being felt in a widespread area. Call the city. Ask the local pet store
